It was the first day of classes and Tris was already wishing she had stayed in bed, the sky blue walls of the classroom she was currently in were an eyesore and the red haired kid behind her smelt bad. To make it even worse she had to sit and listen to a grumpy old lady, who was her teacher, ramble on about the meaning of exchange. Tris sighed deeply and slumped into her seat, Maths had never been a subject she liked but it was one she had to take, unfortunatly.
The worst part was the out of all the days, today was the day the sun had decided to come out. Tris longed to feel the warmth of the sun, but instead she sat in a smelly classroom that was cold and probably hadn't been dusted for two months.
Thankfully though the school bell rang, and without a second thought Tris gathered up her things and headed for the door. She had organized with Lola to meet up for lunch down in the cafeteria, they hadn't really spoken since that night and Tris felt horrible about it. So she asked Lola to have lunch, that was the right thing to do, right?
The cafeteria was full by the time Tris got there, clusters of people eating, talking, pushing, acting like idiots. It was almost like high school all over again, and that only made a shiver run down Tris's spine, no way in hell would she think of that horrible place again.
"Tris! Over here!" Someone called out to her, Tris turned to see Lola waving like a mad man with a huge grin wiped across her face. Quickly, Tris made her way over to her table and sat down next to her and some stranger who clearly wasn't happy that she had sat between him and Lola.
"Tris you won't believe what Blake just told me!" Lola squeaked and pointed at the boy beside Tris who she had upset moments ago.
Tris raised an eyebrow, "What?"
Lola giggled and shook her hands like a little school girl, "His roommate thinks you're hot." She nudged her shoulder lightly and winked at the boy beside her, who sighed quietly.
"He told me not to tell you." Blake muttered and shuffled in his seat, a frown upon his face.
"Well YOU didn't tell her." Lola rolled her eyes and smirked, then leant forward to poke him in the arm.
Tris felt awkward to say the least, for one she was sat in between these two who clearly fancied each other - Well she knew Blake fancied Lola by the glare she got when sitting between them - and secondly she had no clue who Blake's roommate even was.
Tris cleared her throat, "Who is your roommate?" She asked in almost a whisper.
Blake sighed again, as if this topic was a waste of his time, "Ashton," He paused quickly to poke at the uneaten sandwich in front of him. "Irwin."
She hadn't heard of him, until now of course. Well in fact in the whole time she had spent at Adams State she had only really met, like, six people? And there were at least two hundred attending, maybe even less.
"We should hook you two up." Lola suggested, taking a bite out of her chicken burger that was also -until now- untouched.
Tris shook her head, a faint laugh escaping her lips. "I really don't think-"
"Pretty sure Ash would be up for that." Blake chimed, "I'll ask him and come round yours before nine tonight?" This boy was hopeful, hopeful in the thought Lola would let him get into her pants, that's what Tris thought.
"Sounds great!" Lola grinned from ear to ear and took another bite from her burger, pieces of the inside falling out the other end all over her tray. Tris wasn't going to question them making plans about her love life in front of her without even asking for her input, because she knew it would get her no where.
Before they knew it, the school bell rang to signal that lunch was over and the last few lessons were starting. Tris sighed and stood up out of her chair, she wasn't looking forward to a double lesson of English. Fear struck inside her at that point, because she had left a few of her books in her last class, her English book being one of them.
"I'll catch up with you guys later." Tris said quickly and waved at the two before running out the cafeteria and into the hallway.
As she found the classroom she saw her books right where she had left them, she sighed in relief and quickly gathered them up, holding them close to her chest making sure she wouldn't forget them this time. However she heard someone cough behind her, and she turned around to see the last person she would ever wanted to see.
Luke.
"Hey doll." He smirked.
Tris nodded in response, she didn't want to see him right now. She didn't want to hear his voice, because very time she did a shiver ran down her spine at the thought of what he was capable of.
"Oh c'mon," Luke rolled his eyes and walked towards her, Tris took a step backwards and prepared her vocal chords to scream if she needed too. "I'm not going to hurt you." He whispered softly, and smiled as if that was going to be enough for Tris to believe him.
"Bullshit you won't." Tris spat and went to walk past him, but instead Luke moved in front of the doorway, blocking her way out. She didn't want to admit it, but the way he was dressed in a worn out leather jacket and skinny leg jeans as if he was from the 60's, only made her feeling weak at the knees and made the butterflies in her stomach do backflips.
"Look doll, you're the only person is this school I actually like." Luke's lips curved at the corner, relieving a devilish yet handsome smile. He lent up against the door frame however, cause himself to block Tris' way even more.
Tris felt a deep red, colour her cheeks, "That's nice, I guess." She said calmly, and looked down to the floor.
She couldn't let this boy get to her, she couldn't let Luke get to her emotionally. The way he looked at her and the way he called her doll, it just made her feel things she hadn't felt before.
Luke sighed and pushed himself up off the door frame, giving Tris a path to finally leave. "Go." He muttered as if he was the one who could tell her what to do.
Tris huffed and squeezed past the tall boy, making her way into the, now, empty corridor. She wanted to look back at Luke, she wanted to see if he was following her, to see if he wanted to stop her again and say something that would make her stay.
Tris was hopeful, and her hopefulness was starting to show through, whether Luke could see that she didn't know. But one thing was for sure, Tris knew, and Tris also knew she was becoming weak.
Weak for Luke Hemmings.
