I remember the summer I met Harry. The moment we met, I was with my mother buying our daily groceries. We had purchased all of our items, and there Harry was, putting them in bags, and carrying them to our car for us.
It was hot outside, the sun was actually shining, and there wasn't a breeze. My friends were all swimming in their pools, having fun, and enjoying their summer. I, unlike them, stood in a chilly market, following my mother around.
But when his green eyes, and curls came into view, suddenly being at the market wasn't such a bad idea. I had never seen him before, and my family being important as it is, usually knew everybody.
He was a stranger to me. A handsome one at that.
"Who is he?" I asked my mother, my voice a whisper so he wouldn't hear.
My mother looked to him, as he put our meat in bags. She looked to him as if he was scooping cow crap.
"No. Idea. He's probably from the new family that just moved here from Holmes Chapel." She said, leaving it at that.
Holmes Chapel huh. . ?
I watched, suddenly so interested in the bagging of groceries.
"Such a shame." My mother said randomly, and I looked to her confused.
"What do you mean?"
"Such a young lad, with good looks, and look what he's doing. Bagging groceries at the market for heaven's sakes. No money there. That's a shame." She said with a scoff.
My face fell at that, and I looked back to the boy with a pittyful look. She was right. He probably wasn't making that much money.
But he didn't seem to care. Sure he was working, but he did it with a smile--"Eleanor!" I heard the sound of my name being called, and turned around to see Sophia waving as she made her way to me, a glass of champagne in her hand. I smiled upon seeing y friend, mentally preparing myself to put up the happy act.
Sophia made a beautiful bridesmaid. The blush pink dress complimented her tanned skin very well, and the white flower crown that rested on her brown beachy waves was the perfect cherry on top to her look.
"Hey you. Enjoying the reception?" I asked, tying to make some sort of conversation to distract myself from the fact that I have just married a complete stranger, who I just happen to know is an asshole.
Sophia smiled widely, as she raised her hand gesturing to the ornately decorative room. "Oh my goodness yes! This is like my dream wedding! You are so lucky! So beautifully decorated. It's rainy London outside, but you walk in this room and it almost looks like Spring mixed with Summer."
I nodded my head in agreement, looking around the decorated room. "Agreed."
When I looked back to Sophia, I noticed her eyeing me closely. I raised my eyebrow, giving her a confused face. "What? Is something on my face? My lipstick smear?"
Sophia shook her head no slowly. "No, it's just. . .are you having fun?"
No.
"Of course! What bride doesn't have fun at her wedding!" I said with a fake laugh and smile.
"Right. . ." Sophia said, still not buying my act. "Well you happy bride, where is your groom? You guys walked into the room together, but I haven't seen you two together since. Shouldn't you guys be like. . .I don't know? Inseparable?" She asked oddly, and began looking around the large room for the man of the hour.
Damn she's right.
I shook my head with another wide smile. "Oh, I'm sure he's just stepped out for a laugh or some air with his groomsmen." I assured her, waving it off so she didn't get suspicious. Ugh, I hate having to lie to my best friend. "Speaking of men, where's your man?"
