Chapter 5

The Job Interview

3 Days Later

*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP*

I slammed my fist onto my alarm clock. I hated that dreaded alarm clock but knowing myself, I'd probably get up well after noon without it. I groaned as I got up, fixed my hair and walked flimsily towards my closet. Picking out some clothes, I wore some make-up to try to cover up how tired I looked and prepped myself for my first job interview. All I could hope for was that it wouldn't end in a complete disaster. Grabbing my bag and the keys to my car, I locked the house door and drove down to Marlo's.

Even though it was still 8 o'clock in the morning, it was still bursting with people. I surveyed the area, only a group at the far end of the bar were drinking alcohol and whom I presumed didn't come in this morning but are still here from last night. The rest of the customers looked like they were on the way to work and stopped to grab a coffee. I didn't even know Marlo's was a coffe shop by morning and bar by night...guess you learn something everyday. I walked over to the bar and noticed a bartender. He looked around my age and he was cleaning some glasses before placing them back up onto the shelf.

"Hey," I said, walking towards him and adjusting my bag's strap on my shoulder.

"Hey," He smiled,"Can I help you?"

"Uh...Yeah, I'm Ashley Ackles. Do you know where David Marlo is by any chance?"

"Ashley...you must be here for the interview," His eyes shone with realisation," No, he's not here yet. He had some problems to deal with and called, saying he'd be late."

"Oh, okay. I'll just wait then," I smiled at him, biting my lip and adjusting my bag's strap again.

"Calm down, it's an interview for a bartending job, not Obama's assistant." He chuckled. I blushed.

"It's my first job interview ever and I can't calm down," I laughed nervously.

"Your first job interview? How old are you?" He said, dropping one of the glasses onto the table and leaned towards me.

"Eighteen. Why?" I asked, confused.

"Oh, nothin. You just look older than that." He said dismissively, although he looked quite surprised.

"I look old? Ouch," I chuckled.

"That's not what I meant," He laughed," I meant you look like you're in your early twenties already, which isn't a bad thing."

"Right. I didn't catch your name..."

"Eric, pleasure to make your acquaitance," He smiled, offering me his hand. I took it and smiled back at him.
