I woke up abruptly, my forehead dripping with sweat. My nightmare was about the volturi. Again. Each night, the same dream came to my head. It was a repeat of the big battle a month ago, where my whole family nearly died. I calmed my breathing and lay back down. It was quite light outside. The digital clock sitting on a shelf read 7:46am. My mother and father would be making breakfast soon. Suddenly, I remembered. Today is the day of my first riding lesson. There was no point going back to sleep, so I went into the bathroom and took a shower. Today, I used the coconut gel. The scent was overpowering. After shutting off the water, I grabbed a towel and trailed into the closet. Browsing took a while but I eventually chose some black leggings, a pink baggy shirt and blue jersey with a pony on the front. Perfect. I pulled on my stripey socks and exited the closet. I sat up to my dresser and took my hair out, brushing it 100 times before I was satisfied. I then threw it back in a ponytail and applied my favourite raspberry pink lipgloss, a present from Auntie Rose. By this time it was 8:10, so I ran down the stairs and jumped onto a large sofa in the nearest living room. The news flashed on and the newsreader announced the headlines. "Several people were killed in Los Angeles overnight, including five young teenagers. Police are looking into the incident, but do not yet know the cause. One of their theories is that a there is a mass murderer about. If you know any extra information, please contact the police immediately." I knew exactly what was happening. The volturi were on the loose. I turned off the TV and hugged my knees, scrunching up as small as I could. They were rounding up extra recruits. People who could help wipe out my entire family. Before I could burst into tears, my father entered the room. "Daddy...in LA last night...lots of people were..."
"I know, love, it was on the 6am news as well. Don't worry, you're safe." He came over and put his arm round me, hugging me tight. "You mother and I will never let anything happen to you."
"We promise," my mother said, entering the room and sitting on the other side of me. Suddenly she moved her hand and started tickling me. My father joined in as well. I couldn't contain my laughter. My squeals just came out of my mouth. I was giggling so hard that I struggled to breathe. I didn't care though, I was having too much fun. "Right, what would you like for breafast?" She asked, suddenly stoppingf and stroking my hair softly. "Um...peanut butter and jelly on toast!" Peanut butter was my absolute favourite. If I could, I would eat it every day, for every meal. At our old house, I used to sneak into the kitchen, and use a spoon to eat it out of the jar. My family didn't care though. Jake was the only other one who ate, and he absolutely hated peanut butter. So I had the jar to myself! Mom got up and went into the kitchen. My father switched the TV back on and found a children's program, before kissing my head and going out the door. A cheesy cartoon came on. It was actually quite humourous. But mother soon called me for breakfast. I turned the TV off and went into the kitchen, sitting down at the breakfast bar. One seat was taken by Jake, eating cereal, and another by my mom on the laptop. I wolfed my toast down and glanced at what mom was doing. She was looking at different coloured riding hats. I gasped, smiling at the same time. "I thought that black one in the stable was a bit boring. What about this one, love?" she asked, pointing at a light pink rhinestone helmet. It was as if she could read my mind. I squealed yes as loudly as possible. "Whoa, Ness, need to be so loud?" laughed Jake, covering his ears. Sometimes I forgot how noisy I could actually be. I watched as mother put in the details like my name and the style of writing. Then came the boring stuff like credit card details and blah blah blah, so I went to try and find daddy.
My dad was sitting in the study again, frowning over the phone. I peeked through the gap and saw him rubbing the back of his neck, like he was in pain. I easily had the power to hear what Grandpa Carlisle was saying on the other side, but didn't want to. I knew what they were talking about. Instead, I decided to skype Grandma Renee, so went up to my bedroom, sat on my bed and opened my brand new pink laptop.
