Chapter Six:The Monster

        I sat up, wondering where I was for a minute, then remembered. My heart felt heavy in my chest, and I wondered if Mike, Lucas, or Dustin were even looking for me. And then, I heard an angry scream.. I made my way towards it, and then, I found a little pond, and El's blonde wig. She couldn't be far.. I began walking, my body stiff from the way I slept, and every single muscle aching. I made my way down to the market store, and saw Eleven walk out of it, carrying three boxes of Eggos, and she slammed the doors shut with her mind, shattering them. She made her way back into the woods, and I slowly followed her. She finally sat down by a tree, and opened a box of Eggos, eating them raw. I silently sat down next to her, and she jumped. She said,"Sarah?" I said,"Hi, El.." I stared at the ground, and she said,"Sad.." I said,"Yeah. Sad.. Because I thought they were my friends. I was wrong. But- You're still my friend, right?" She said,"Yes.." I smiled slightly, and she offered me an Eggo.

    I took the Eggo, and bit into it. Raw Eggos aren't actually all that bad.. She and I both looked up, as Mike's voice yelled,"El! Sarah?" We sat there, silent, until I sighed, and said,"You can stay here if you want, El. I'm going to go talk to them.. I won't tell them where you are. Promise." I stood, and began walking in the direction of Mike's voice, and I called,"Mike?" I saw Mike and Dustin running, and saw Troy and James chasing them, and Troy had a switchblade. I raced after them, tripping over tree branches and things, until Troy and James got ahold of Dustin at the quarry. Troy held the knife to Dustin's face, and I yelled,"Troy! Hey, Troy! Asshole!" He smirked at me, and said,"Byers..Your little friends are about to go to fairyland with your brother. Unless you and Wheeler do what I say.." I came closer, and he said,"Stay back, or I cut him!" Mike asked,"What do you want?" Troy said,"I want to know how you did it." Mike asked,"Did what?" Troy answered,"I know you did something to me. Some nerdy science shit to make me do that." Mike asked,"You mean pissing your pants?" Dustin said,"Our friend has superpowers, and she squeezed your tiny little bladder with her mind!" Troy said,"Shut up! I think I ought to save Toothless here a trip to the dentist. Help him lose the rest of his baby teeth."

     Mike said,"Let him go!" I said,"Let him go, Troy!" He said,"Oh, I'll let him go, sure! But first, it's both of your turn.. Byers, jump into the quarry, and Wheeler, wet yourself or jump after her..Or else Toothless here gets an early trip to the dentist. I'll cut him right now!" Mike said,"All right! Hold on!" I said,"I'll do it. Hold on!" Dustin said,"Mike, Sarah, don't do it! I don't need my baby teeth! Sarah, Mike!" I walked to the edge of the cliff overlooking the quarry, and swallowed, looking three hundred feet down into the smooth water. I watched rocks fall as I stood there. I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, and jumped. I felt air shoot past me, and my breath caught in my throat. I didn't even have time to scream.. I hit the water hard, pain shooting through every inch of my body, and I tasted blood. The water was freezing, and my body went numb after a few seconds.. I couldn't move, as wave after wave of pain crashed over me. Just the fact that I was still alive after that fall surprised me. I heard Mike scream, and managed to turn my head in the water, to see him suspended in midair, then go flying back up onto the cliff. I forced myself to swim to shore as best I could, and the next thing I knew, I was flying up beside Mike and landed hard on the ground. Shivering, wet, and hurting, I turned my head, and smiled, as I saw El coming towards us, her nose dripping blood. James flew back, and landed hard, and then, El jerked her head, and a loud crack sounded.

   Troy screamed, holding his right arm, dropping the knife, and said,"She broke my arm!" Eleven glared at him and the goon, and said,"Go.." Troy and James said,"Let's go! Let's get out of here, man!" They turned, and ran, and Dustin yelled,"Yeah, that's right! You'd better run! She's our friend, and she's crazy! You come back here, she'll kill you! You hear me?! She'll kill you, you sons of bitches!" El fell, and I forced myself to crawl over to her, even though it hurt like a bitch. Mike raced over, and she said,"Mike.. I'm sorry.." He asked,"Sorry? What are you sorry for?" She said,"The gate- I opened it.. I'm the monster.." Mike said,"No! No, El, you're not the monster! You saved me! Do you understand? You saved me.." I laid down next to her, and coughed up blood. My teeth chattered, and she reached over, and touched my face. She said,"Hurt.." I closed my eyes, and said,"I'll-I'll be fine.." Then, I fell sideways, and everything went dark..
