We all stared up at the flickering fluorescent lights on the ceiling, as they flickered, and suddenly, a sinking in the pit of my stomach that soon shot through my spine, told me that we were in danger. Will reached up, and touched the back of his neck, fear in his eyes, and whispered, "He's here." He shivered, and I grabbed his hand, shaking slightly, knowing that no matter what happened, I had to keep him and my friends safe..Moments later, a voice growled in my head, "Kill them.." I let go of Will's hand, covering my ears, as the growls got louder and louder, and whispered, "He's gonna kill them..I can hear him." They all turned to look at me, and Mike said, "We gotta help them! That's my sister!" Everyone else nodded, and we raced by the visitor check in, the receptionist shouting at us, "Two at a time! Two at a time!"
We raced to the elevators, and Max rapidly pressed the button, but it was taking too long. Mike shouted, "Stairs!", and we all raced to the stairwell, racing up the steps as fast as we could. My heart raced in my chest, as I could still hear the growls inside my head. As we raced around corner after corner of the dimly lit hallway, and saw the mangled bodies of both hospital staff and patients alike, I was terrified that we'd be too late, and my older brother and Mike's sister would be dead before we found them. Suddenly, as we raced down a hallway, my legs seemed to lock themselves in place, and I couldn't move, pain washing through my body in white hot waves. I watched my friends stop and stare at me, and saw El ask me something, but couldn't hear her over the growling inside my skull, roaring, "Kill! Kill!" I managed to move after what seemed like eternity, but was most likely a few seconds, and told them, "This way! Hurry!" I led them down the hallway, and felt relief flow through me as I saw Johnathan, bloody and bruised, but still alive.
My relief was short lived, however, as Johnathan shouted fearfully, "Nancy's in there with that thing! The door's locked, and it's going to kill her!" Before any of us could blink, El shouted in anger, and the door flew off its hinges, revealing the terrifying thing inside. A monster that stood about seven feet high had Nancy pinned to the floor, its jaws mere centimeters from her throat, and I could almost taste the anger and hate radiating from it, as it turned its head to face us. It smelled horrible, like rotting meat, and as it stepped into the light more, I was ninety nine percent sure that was what it was made of. It froze, as it saw me and El, and growled lowly at me. It asked, "Sister? Why do you not kill them?" I breathed faster, tears forming in my eyes, as I took a tiny step back, and growled back at it, saying, "I'm not one of you..I belong with them." It roared in anger at that, and Mike said, "Jesus."
Max said, "What the-" The rest of her sentence got cut off by the monster's roar, and it charged towards us. I lifted my hand, and shook with effort, barely able to hold the monster back, still weak from passing out before, and soon enough, my legs were shaking with the strain. Blood dripped from my nose, and I eventually had to let go, falling backwards. Max barely caught me before I hit the floor, and I stared weakly at the monster, as it charged again, aiming for me. Before it got even three feet from us, El screamed in anger, raising one hand. The monster slammed into the wall hard, cracking it, and Nancy sat up, her eyes wide with both shock and fear. El screamed again, and the monster went flying into the other wall, then, she jerked her hand upwards, slamming the monster into the ceiling. She finally brought her hand down, and the monster slammed hard into the tile floor, cracking and breaking it.
El grabbed onto the doorway with both hands, almost falling from exhaustion, but held herself up, and the monster roared, charging at her. I felt fear and anger course through my veins, and I stood up straight, forcing myself not to fall again, and lifted my arms at the same time El did, screaming. The monster went flying through the glass window, sending shards flying everywhere, and I could hear the wet smack, as it hit the concrete outside. Johnathan shouted, "Nancy!", and raced into the room to check on her, and El shouted, "Go!" All of us raced downstairs and outside of the hospital, and El put her arms out protectively, holding us back. I saw the monster on the ground, flat as a piece of paper, and thought it must be dead, until I saw it wriggle and crawl its meaty way into a grate on the ground, slipping away from us into the sewers.
