My hands grew shaky, and I hid them behind my back quickly. "O-oh, police officer, huh? A lot of bad guys out there..." I murmured, trying to keep my tone steady. "Yeahhh, we actually had a pretty tough chase last night." Lapis replied, shaking her head. "Oh? How did that go?" I asked, arching an eyebrow. "Egh, lousy. We lost 'em, but I've made it my mission to find those bastards. I will find them." she said the last part a bit quieter, and I just nervously chuckled.
"O-ohhh man, that's a bummer. I-I mean...i-if you didn't see their face, you got no evidence, huh..." I muttered, hoping to get an insight on the force's perspective. "Sadly, no. I wasn't able to see either of their faces. Pretty rainy actually. Made everything harder. But I'm sure there will be more activity sooner than later." Lapis explained.
I only nodded in response, and smiled. Shit. Fuck. Damn. Lapis then smiled back at me, and my cheeks burned. She then came next in line, and she turned around to order at the counter. My fingers fidgeted behind my back, and sweat formed on the back of my neck. I bit the inside of my cheek, and stared as Lapis ordered her coffee. I have to get on her good side. What is something that a thief would never do...
Once the officer reached into her pocket and grab her wallet, I walked up to the counter beside her. "This one'll be on me." I blurted, planting a ten dollar bill down. Lapis's head shot up, and she looked at me in shock. "Wh-wh-huh? Oh, no no you don't have to do that..." she bashfully protested, holding her hands up. "I know." I shot back, smiling. The cashier took my ten, then took out my change from the register, sliding it to me.
I scooped it up, and stuffed it back into my pocket, not caring to stuff my wallet anymore. The cop's cheeks were a bit red, and she looked back down at her feet. "Th-thanks. You're sweet..." she said, chuckling. "Ah, it's nothing. You already do enough for all of us around here..." I replied, shrugging. On the outside, I felt that I appeared quite confident and laid back. However, on the inside, I was screaming at the top of my lungs and flipping an imaginary table. Keep your cool. Keep your cool.
"Here's your coffee, ma'am." the cashier chirped, placing a paper cup in front of Lapis. The officer took it hesitantly, and looked over at me with a small smile. "Th-thanks again...I'll probably bump into you again sooner than we think, heh." Lapis murmured, looking to the side. "Haha, yeah..." You already did. Last night. It'll probably happen again. Agh. "It was nice meeting you, Peridot." she said, and I genuinely smiled. She nodded at me, and with that, she walked out of the shop. I stared as she walked out, opening her car door. Cop car. Gosh why didn't I see that.
I turned back around and ordered my coffee, as well as the ones for everyone else back at home. Once I received the drinks in a drink holder, I pushed the door open with my arm, and walked out. I was walking toward my car, and twitched my eye a bit in confusion once I spotted something. I set the coffees down on top of the car, and stared down at the...ticket placed on my car. What the fuck?! What did I even do wrong?! I groaned loudly, snatching the piece of paper off of my windshield.
It was probably that Lapis girl...ugh, after how nice I was to...my thoughts were interrupted once I actually flipped the ticket over. The ticket was actually blank, and none of the boxes were filled out. But what was written across the front was a phone number. I felt my face heat up, and my insides tingle a little bit. I looked over across the parking lot, but noticed Lapis's cop car was already gone. I stared back down at the paper in my hand, and I internally squealed, can't helping but smile. I got into my car, placing the ticket on my dashboard.
I put my key into the ignition, and turned it, hearing the purr of the engine starting. I twisted back to see behind me through the back window after putting it in reverse, and recklessly slammed my foot on the gas. However, I immediately hit the brake once I heard a series of loud thumps against my car windshield. I looked forward again, and screamed as brown liquid was now streaming down my previously clean windshield. The now empty cups rolled off of the hood of the car, and I just stared. Right...I left the coffees on the roof. My head dropped onto the steering wheel, and I dry sobbed.
. . . .
"Why didn't you get the coffees?!" Aquamarine asked, putting her hands on her hips. "I forgot 'em." I deadpanned, placing the bag of cleaning stuff onto the kitchen table – which was still covered in milk but I honestly didn't care. "Then what took you so long?" Jasper asked. "Traffic." I lied, shoving my hands into my pockets, feeling the folded piece of paper inside one of them. Aquamarine groaned, and snatched the bag off of the table, reaching inside of it. "I'll be upstairs." I stated, walking towards the staircase. "Seeya, Pericopter." I heard Amethyst say from the couch.
I sluggishly walked up my stairs, up into my bedroom. I closed the door behind me, and reached into my pocket, pulling out the phone number. I unfolded it, and stared at it one more time. I sighed and closed my eyes, feeling a bit depressed. This couldn't work. I'm a criminal, and she is a fucking police officer. If I stayed close to her, she'd probably find out eventually. Right? I wanted more than anything to learn more about this girl, but the whole situation seemed too messy.
I pulled my phone out of my back pocket, and looked at it, then back at the ticket. Hmmm. I grunted, and turned my phone off, flopping onto the bed. "Why the hell did I have to buy her that coffee..." I grumbled, wanting to just go to sleep and never wake up. I couldn't stop thinking about her. Something her was intriguing to me...but I couldn't put my finger on it. Maybe I just found the fact that I'm a dirty thief and she's a justice-seeking cop quite fascinating and ironic to me. It would be so wrong...and I liked that.
I began to slowly drift off to sleep, but my eyes shot open as soon as I heard someone call my name from downstairs. I grumbled lowly, remaining unmoved. I just closed my eyes again, ignoring it. I'm tired. Leave me alone. "PERIDOOOOOTTTTT!!!" they called louder, and I groaned so loudly it turned into a muffled screech. "SHUT THE FUCK UP I'M COMING!" I screamed. I rolled off of my bed, falling onto my back. I just wanted to fall asleep there, but decided against it. I climbed to my feet, and opened the door, walking down the stairs. I nearly tripped and almost feel down the stairs at least three times on the way down, but luckily didn't. "What?!" I growled, walking into the kitchen.
"It's your turn tomorrow night, but I was actually thinking maybe you can do it tonight? I got poker tonight and I can't afford to miss it." Amethyst explained, and I rolled my eyes. "No." I replied. "Yes! I promise I'll take your turn tomorrow night! I just really need this!" Amethyst begged. "Ask one of the others to do it." I told her, crossing my arms. "Noooo, they're meeeaaannn..." Ame whined. "I'm mean. And I'm not doing it...I'm not gonna do my turn tomorrow night either..." I muttered the last part barely above a whisper.
"What's with you man? I thought you liked robbing and shit." the purple-haired girl remarked, giving me a confused look. "I never said that." I deadpanned. "But you did show it. You were always crazy hyped and happy whenever you went on a mission. How come all of a sudden you don't want to?" I didn't reply, just staring at the floor. "Good luck finding someone." I stated, walking back upstairs. I heard Amethyst scoff, and mutter something about me, but I didn't hear exactly. I closed my eyes and grumbled. What am I doing?!
