I got up from my bed, and walked up to my bedroom door. I locked it, and walked back over to my phone, which was resting on the bed. I picked it up, shoved it into my pocket, and slipped my shoes back on. I slipped on my sweatshirt, and approached my window. I swiftly pushed the curtains aside, and slid open the window. I consciously looked back at my door one last time, before lifting my leg. I carefully climbed out the window, and landed on the roof.
I cautiously slid the window back closed, and took a deep breath. I took very small steps as I began to walk down the slanted roof, and I lowered myself down. I sat on the very edge, and my legs dangled over it. Topaz's truck was parked on the left side of the driveway, and I was in fact on the left side of the roof, practically hovering over the truck. I mentally counted to three before shimmying off the roof, landing onto the truck, which made a loud bang noise. I flinched, and stared back at the house for a moment.
I carefully climbed down from the top of the truck, and nearly stumbled. I knew they were going to notice my car missing from the driveway, so I just decided to walk to Lapis' house. She texted me her address, and she actually wasn't that far from where I lived. It would take about 30 minutes max to arrive there, so I proceeded to walk, making sure I wasn't being followed. I threw my hood up, and sped up my walking.
. . . .
I arrived at Lapis' door about 20 minutes later, I threw my hood down, and knocked on her door. Shortly after, she answered the door, immediately smiling as soon as she saw it was me. I brightly smiled back, and immediately moved forward to hug her tightly. She seemed a bit surprised at first, but hugged back a few seconds afterward. "You okay, Peri?" she asked, stroking my back. "I have some issues." I groaned quietly, my voice being muffled into Lapis' shirt.
"Well you could come in and talk about it." she stated, pulling me fully into her house, and closing the door. "I said there's nothing much to talk abooouutt, it's my own problemmm..." I grunted, though clinging to Lapis. Unmoving from Lapis, I lifted my head to look around the living room for a moment. It was a pretty damn nice place, and there was a large black couch in the center of the room. "So... you live alone?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. "Pretty much." she flatly replied, and I finally released her.
"Big place..." I murmured. "Yeah... but I like the space." she claimed, walking to the kitchen. "You want anything?" she called, and I cocked my head to look over in the direction of the kitchen. "N-no, but thanks. I filled up on the popcorn..." I lied, mentally sobbing at the memory of my popcorn spilling all over. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was playing on the TV, and I plopped down onto the couch. "You like this movie?" I asked, hunching over.
"Oh! Well, I got the HBO channel this weekend, and it's just playing that movie. I've been watching movies since yesterday." Lapis giggled, walking back into the living room with a cup of I assumed coffee in her hand. I scooted over to let the cop sit down, and I folded my hands together. "So... what exactly is going on, Peridot? What do you and your friend keep fighting about?" she asked, sipping her coffee and glancing over at the TV. I looked down shyly.
"Well... let's just say she doesn't like me doing something, because she's afraid it'll hurt her and my other friends as well. But I honestly don't think it's hurting anyone. At least not at the moment." I explained, staring down at my hands. "Could it potentially hurt them in the future?" she asked. "... perhaps... but I don't see exactly how. If I just keep being cautious about the whole thing, I feel that I'm staying safe, and keeping the others safe too." I replied. However, I gritted my teeth behind my lips, because I knew I was lying to myself.
Amethyst is in jail because of me. That doesn't sound very safe. I just couldn't say too much to Lapis about this whole situation. She would probably eventually figure it out if she put two and two together. "I guess all I can say is trust your instincts. If you really believe something is right, just go for it. Ignore what everyone else says, I say." she explained, shrugging. "Not the best advice, not the most unique advice, but that's just how it is. You can't let everyone else control your decisions. You're an adult." she added.
I stared at the television screen for a moment, thinking deeply. "That's true... I just..." I trailed off, thinking hard about how I should put this. Jasper threatened me that if I didn't get Amethyst out of jail, she would end up turning me in. Would she really do that? Jesus, she says I'm a bad friend. I looked away from the TV over to Lapis, and she was already looking at me intently. I bit the inside of my cheek, just staring back at her. "... nevermind. I'll figure it out, for sure." I said quietly, forcing a smile.
Lapis tilted her head, scrunching up her eyebrows. She set her coffee cup down on the coffee table in front of us, and she scooted a bit closer to me. She reached over to me, and placed a hand gently on my cheek. The temperature in my face shot through the roof, and I tried to maintain eye contact with her. "Are you really okay? That smile... wasn't genuine." she muttered, and I tensed up a little bit. I then reached up and placed my hand on her hand, which was still resting on my cheek.
I looked down, and relished in her touch. "No, Lapis... I'm not. But I will be." I answered, not yet looking up at her. "I'm just a little confused... conflicted. But everyone gets like that at some point, right?" I fakely chuckled. "Yeah... and I'm here for you, Peridot. If you're ever ready to tell me the full situation, I'll be here. And maybe I could even really help you." she explained, giving me a half smile. That's a nice thought.
Lapis then leaned forward slowly, and kissed my forehead. My gaze switched back up to her face, and I genuinely smiled this time. "So, wanna finish this movie with me?" she asked with a grin, nodding her head toward the TV. I glanced at the TV, and giggled. "Yeah, okay."
. . . .
My eyelids fluttered open for a split second, then closed again. I very quietly grumbled, and shifted as I realized that I had fallen asleep. I opened my eyes again fully, and looked around for a moment. I was still at Lapis' house, and a new movie was now playing on the TV. I noticed I was laying against Lapis, and I slightly looked up. Lapis was still awake, but looking a little drowsy.
Her eyes flickered back down to me, and she smirked. "Hi." she muttered. "W-was I out long? Did you miss your shift? Is it morning already?!" I sat up for a moment anxiously. Lapis snorted and laughed, and I stared at her questioningly. "Chill, Peridot. It's still night time. You were asleep for, like, 2 hours." she said quietly, and my cheeks burned furiously. "O-oh... oops." I murmured, looking down at the couch below me.
"How long until your shift starts?" I asked. "Well, it starts in about 30 minutes, actually. But it takes me like 10 to 15 minutes to drive to the police department." she explained. "Oh, my bad. I should probably go then..." I said, standing up from the couch. I then felt her fingers wrap around my wrist, and I looked back at her in surprise. "You don't have to go, right now..." she said, staring up at me. She then pulled me back down, and I squeaked in response.
I plopped back onto the couch beside her, and she giggled. I rolled my eyes, feeling a bit flustered. "Well, I have to go soon. I wouldn't want you to be late." I insisted, tilting my head. "I know, I know. But we still have a little time, right?" she asked, giving me a cute look. I huffed, and pursed my lips, turning away bashfully. "Sorry, I just love having you around." she said in a tone barely above a whisper.
I turned back to her, softening my stern expression. Her grip on my wrist loosened, and I raised my hand up to take her chin into it. Lapis cocked her eyebrows as I stared into her eyes, and I furrowed my eyebrows. I moved forward and enclosed the space between us, causing Lapis to slightly flinch for merely a split second. Once the cop ran her tongue along my bottom lip, she tilted forward a little bit, causing me to lean back.
I felt her snake her arms around my waist, and I lowly hummed. I laid my back across the couch, and Lapis followed by straddling me. My arms wrapped tightly around her shoulders, and I parted my lips. She slid her tongue slickly into my mouth, andi let out a muffled groan. I pulled away for a moment, and stared up at her with a flustered expression. "Lapis, y-your shift." I grumbled, though feeling my legs tremble.
"We got fifteen minutes." she protested in a husky whisper. "Wh-what could we possibly do in fift-" I was cut off as Lapis leaned back down and kissed me again.
