Cardiac Arrest (Lapidot)

Chapter 12

Amethyst just got arrested. It's all my fault. I took a few minutes to catch my breath, and I slowly leaned down to check on Jasper. She had been knocked unconscious, and there was a 90% chance she got a concussion. Her head laid limp against the steering wheel, and I placed my hand underneath her chin, lifting her head up gently. I grunted as I struggled to lift her whole upper body literally off of me. I steadied her as she laid back into her seat, and I exhaled. I reached over her and pulled out the seatbelt, buckling her in. "Oh, Jasper..." I sighed, buckling myself in, and putting the car in reverse.

"She WHAT?!" Aquamarine hollered, balling her fists. Her face was a lovely shade of red, and I huffed. "How the hell did Amethyst get arrested?!" she shrieked. "Th-there was a lot of pressure, Aqua! It was either her get arrested or all of us get arrested!" I explained. "There was plenty of time for us to get Amethyst. The cop was fucking distracted when she hit her! That was our chance!" Jasper protested from the kitchen table, holding a bag of frozen peas on her head.

"Butt the fuck out, Jasper, you were out cold. You have no business making claims." I snapped. "Yeah I was only knocked unconscious 'cause you slammed the brakes when I tried to go back." Jasper argued. "WE WERE HEADED STRAIGHT FOR A POLE!!" I cried. "Enough!" Aqua shouted. "Peridot. How could you do this? To your own accomplice? Your own friend?" she asked in a softer tone of voice. "I-I'm sorry. I... panicked." I murmured. "This is about that one damned cop, isn't it?" Jasper asked, furrowing her eyebrows. "What damned cop?" Aqua asked, crossing her arms.

"NO ONE!!" I hollered, shooting Jasper a death glare. "And no, it's not. I just didn't wanna get fucking arrested! It's not like I handed Amethyst over to the police." I grumbled. "You pretty much did. To save your own ass." Jasper stated. Topaz just looked utterly confused throughout the whole argument. "If we went back for her, there was a very high chance that all three of us would've gotten arrested." I flatly stated. Jasper grunted, and looked away from me in disgust. "Look, whatever the hell is goin' on, I don't care at this point. What I do care about is getting Amethyst out of jail. And you're gonna do it." Aquamarine explained, pointing a finger at me.

"What?! Why me?! I'm the weakest of this team, you dumbasses!" I protested in a shrill voice. "You're the one who got her there in the first place. So you're gonna get her out." she replied. "And how am I supposed to get past the security? I can't take them all out like the Hulk, Aqua." I groaned. There was a few moments of silence, and I looked over at Jasper, who was still looking away. "Jasper, I said I was sorry." I said. "Sorry doesn't get my sister out of jail." Jasper grumbled, unmoving.

I sighed, and pinched the bridge of my nose. "I can't do this alone." I muttered. Aqua huffed, and closed her eyes. "I suppose we can formulate a plan. And you will be responsible of whether we get her back or not. If we don't, you can go right ahead and be Amethyst's cellmate. Am I clear?" she opened her eyes to stare at me. "Crystal." I replied, rolling my eyes. Jasper proceeded to leave the kitchen, and I watched regretfully. I then walked upstairs to my bedroom.

I slammed the door behind me, and laid across my bed, sighing loudly. I felt bad. I felt terrible. Amethyst is in jail right now because of me. I had to find a way to get her out without getting myself arrested as well. I just couldn't help but feel frustrated. None of this would've happened if they hadn't forced me to to go on a mission in the first place. But then again they may both have ended up in jail if I hadn't booked it with Jasper.

I was really sorry. I wanted to apologize to Amethyst, but there was no way. I couldn't let Lapis see me. I just couldn't. I had to face facts when I realized that I've fallen hard  for this girl, and one of my best friends is behind bars because of it. You know what? I'm gonna prove to the others that I care enough. I will bust Amethyst out of jail if it's the last thing I do. I'll show them.

I very very very very reluctantly decided to take Jasper and Amethyst's morbid advice to use Lapis. Use her to get to Amethyst. The thought caused my stomach to lurch, but I had no choice. I have to get Ame out of there, or like Aqua said - I'll end up bunking with her in that damn cell. I couldn't take that risk. I pulled out my phone and turned the power on, thinking deeply. I'll ask Lapis if we can go on a little field trip to the police department. I could call up Jasper, Topaz, and Aqua once I'm in. Lapis won't suspect a thing.

Peridot: Hey Lapis

Peridot: Can we hang out tomorrow night?

Lapis: Sounds fun! We could go wherever before my shift starts

Peridot: Okay cool :) You wanna meet somewhere? Or

Lapis: Nah I could pick u up

Lapis: You'll just have to give me your address

Fuck. She'll see our get away car in the driveway. I'll have to make Jasper move it into the garage and pull Topaz's car out. No questions asked.

Peridot: 1815 Main st.

Peridot: It's bit down the road from the U-Stor

Lapis: 👍we'll figure out times tmr

I exhaled sharply and looked at my wall, then down at my lap, disgusted with myself. I was gonna betray Lapis. Deceive her. Lie to her. Lying was nothing new to me... but lying to Lapis always seemed to be the most difficult.
