Days blurred by in a fairly consistent manner. Veronica moved in with Kaden to help her keep up with her lessons, and alleviate her stress as well as she could. Mitzie and the Queen unrelentingly loaded her down with everything she was expected to learn in her swiftly dissipating time allotment. Kaden did all she could to stay afloat and not lose herself in the sea of stressors. Soon there were only three days left.
"Schatzi, dearest," Veronica called upstairs to the sleeping Kaden. "Schatzi, I've made breakfast!"
Kaden stumbled down to find an exquisite breakfast of pancakes, bacon, and a lovely assortment of fruit and berries. She was met with a kiss and a steaming cup of coffee, and a drowsy smile dawned her face. That is, until she saw the suitcases.
"Why are your suitcases down here? Don't like using my closet?" Kaden joked shakily. Veronica smiled sadly and released a small humorless laugh. She pushed off the counter and walked over to Kaden.
"We don't have to talk about that now, just enjoy your breakfast, Beautiful." Veronica spoke softly as she led Kaden to the counter where she'd prepared a plate.
"Ronnie?" Kaden whispered, hurt.
"No Schatzi, please, don't do that. I don't want to leave you, honest. "
"But you are! Why?" Kaden's voice cracked, "Did I do something wrong?"
"No!" Veronica gasped, "Schatzi, you are perfect! You're kind, beautiful, funny, and I honestly want to stay, " she raked in a ragged breath, "but I can't. I'm sorry, but we can't live together any longer." Kaden felt herself lose the war between her eyes and their lashes, as tears began their swift, unrelenting assault on her cheeks. She collapsed onto the counter, and continued to sob, broken. Veronica planted a soft kiss on her cheek before grabbing her bags and leaving silently, closing the glass door gently for the last time.
