Veronica slowly raised one hand towards the sky, fingers spread, as though she were preparing to catch the sky with one hand. Her arm, fully extended, was a vineyard of electric vines, sparking and arcing wildly as they draped about the limb.
The sky began to turn black, roiling clouds overcame the slowly rising dawn. Kaden knew it was Veronica's doing, for she often created thunderstorms during their fights, but this one was a lot larger than she'd ever seen her make.
Veronica's eyes turned white as the voltage overtook her, and the storm fully masked the sky. Once the inky blackness covered everything in sight, Veronica closed her hand into a fist and yanked down on an invisible cord.
That motion was all it took. Thousands of beings fell from the sky in plumes of darkness, and assembled floating on the road behind her. Her eyes remained white, but a small semblance of normality returned as bleached circles, her irises and pupils, rolled from the back of her head. A twisted smile wrenched it's way up her face, like someone yanking puppet strings attached to her lips. Her head jerked away from Kaden, to stare at the Queen and Mitzie. She was no longer her own being, but was being moved by an invisible puppeteer, a mastermind unseen and unknown.
Mitzie flinched back at the sight, but the Queen held her arm, and stiffened her own posture, inclining her chin in a snub to everything she was seeing. An inhuman screech ripped out of Veronica's mouth. The beings behind her echoed the war cry, twisting and chittering in excitement.
The Queen simply reached a hand to Mitzie's neck, and yanked the chain from it. She lifted the small charm to her lips and blew, a blaring alarm resounded, full of trembling bass that sent waves down the liquid streets. She handed it back to Mitzie, who now seemed much more calm, almost at peace with herself and her surroundings.
A metallic beast burst from beneath the bubbling, babbling boulevard, soon followed by many more. These beasts were taller than any person Kaden had ever seen, and were fully composed of metal, from the horns atop their heads, and shoulders, to the tips of their pointy feet. They glistened as the water droplets fell from the lustrous armored surfaces.
"Why?" Kaden squeaked, knowing she should have remained silent. Mitzie glared at her, betrayal still smouldering in her eyes as they flickered to the stiffening cadaver beside her.
"If there is to be war, we must have an army, Child." The Queen explained simply, her voice laced with a condescending edge.
"No war, only death" the Jägerin rasped out crooningly.
"So you concede" the Queen smiled calmly as she poked at the Jägerin's resolve.
"Never!" It screamed, and the battle began.
