As quickly as he stated it, the conversation was ended. Kaden assumed the man was just crazy.
Once back in the cavern, Kaden set out to find her family. She found the shed where Leigh and she often spent the night, but it was empty. It looked as though it had been abandoned for several years, but Kaden knew that they had been there just last week. Regardless, she found her way to her house and walked inside.
"Guys! I'm home!" Kaden called out. There was no response. "Guys, you can't hide, your cars are in the yard!" She laughed at the silence. She went into her room and froze.
Her room was covered in bouquets of flowers and there was a table covered with pictures of her which was surrounded by candles. She'd only been gone a day and they'd turned her room into a shrine, she'd have to talk to them about being overly dramatic later. That's when she heard the sniffle.
She spun around and saw Leigh staring at her. He looked older somehow. And crying.
"I miss you, sis. I still miss you." He spoke softly.
"I'm home, Leigh. What do you mean, "still miss" me? A bit dramatic, aren't we?" Kaden joked. Leigh sighed deeply.
"Dad says we're still going to do a joint party, even though you'd be twenty and would hate that if you ..." He broke off as tears fell down his cheeks. Kaden took a step back. Could he not see her? What did he mean 'she'd be twenty'? She would be eighteen this year! Why was he crying? She walked up to him and hugged him. He cried harder. "It's just so hard! I tried to find you! I swear I did! Why'd you have to give me the life jacket?" He stopped to gasp for air. "It almost feels like you're still here. Like any second now you're going to come out of the bathroom in your hideous green velvet jacket and ask if I want to go to the art gallery with you. It's so hard to believe that you...that-that you died." Kaden screamed and ran out of the house. How could she be dead if she was standing right there? How? She could feel her heart beating, even if she did seem a little colder than usual, that didn't make her DEAD! That guy! The guy that floats! He could see her! She decided she would go back and demand that he explain what was going on. She wanted answers and she was going to get them.
