Chapter 17

Those last three days, Kaden focused like never before. She mastered any and every task they threw at her. Still, when she was presented before the people, things did not fare well.
     She was put into her bodysuit & brought into the room where it all began, the room she now knew as The Councilmen Quarters. The Queen spoke well of her and her learning, while Mitzie thought a more physical approach would bode better with the people, and so she began to set up a series of trials for Kaden to display her newly mastered skills. The Queen finished her speech, and Mitzie stepped to the stand, but no words were permitted to pass her lips, for the crowd began protesting.
   "She shall never be queen!"
  "She's not one of us!"
    "What can she possibly know about ruling a people?"
  "She's a fake!"
      "She was sent by Jägerin!" The entire crowd gasped, and fell silent. Kaden stared in disbelief at the chaos around her.
   She recalled from one of her more recent lessons that Jägerin, which loosely translates to the English word "slayer", was once to become Queen, but was deemed unfit to rule. She fled the people, so as to retain her life.
    Living in constant fear and pain, she turned to the Teufel, "Devil", for help. She was granted a horrible Dunkle Magie, "Dark Magic", and was scarred forever, but was relieved of her pain, for her heart had withered away, leaving only an immortal shell.
   Out of hatred from her past, she returned to the Mond people and began wiping them out by the hundreds, thus earning her the name,  "Jägerin".
     Surely they didn't believe that she was in cohorts with such a vile being. They couldn't,  could they?
     Suddenly, a voice jeered from the back of the crowd.
    "Her? With the Jägerin? Please, " the voice paused as its owner stepped into the light, "I wouldn't take her into my army if you paid me." Those words alone shattered Kaden's heart beyond all repair, as her mind begged her eyes to be tricking her. They were not.
