"Good job, Sweetheart! Wonderful speech! I almost believed your sentiment!" That familiar voice drawled out.
Pain flashed across Kaden's face as Veronica, face wide with a maniacal grin, hands still upholding a slow and steady clap, came into view. Veronica looked between the two of them, and her eyes caught for a split second, on her own grave.
"Oh Schatzi..." She whispered, and for one moment it was just the two of them, her face warped in surprise, in pain,  and maybe even in love. However, her eyes landed next on Floaty's hand, which had not quite returned to his side yet, as he froze when he realized who approached them. Her eyes jaded, then faded to red as she encountered jealousy, followed by rage. "You," she fumed, "you dare to touch her? You fool!  She is mine! She belongs to me!" Her voice rose until she was screaming at him. Her hair rose in a web of electricity, which was vastly brighter than any that Kaden had ever seen. It trailed through her hair, down her arms, and wrapped itself restlessly around her fingers.
Kaden watched almost in slow motion, from a state of shock, as Veronica's arms raised and the voltage increased even more, then it flew into Floaty's chest, disappearing.
His body convulsed wildly as he folded about the middle and collapsed onto the ground. Kaden heard his breathing go sporadic as his body flopped like a fish on the sun baked dock, limbs flailing in every direction as his body fought against this powerful intrusion. Then it was over. His body lost the war, his limbs twitched hard one last time as his lungs gave one more sturdy gasp before collapsing into neverending silence. The lights faded from his wise, ageless eyes, and his head thudded against the ground, turning towards Kaden, suspended in an unending expression of horror and betrayal.
Kaden knocked her knees against the tombstone as consciousness failed her. Veronica tutted softly and swepted her into her arms.
Kaden awoke to screaming. Not like over-exaggerated "horror movie" screaming, the real kind, where you just shit yourself cause what you just saw probably ruined your life. Where you are traumatized beyond counseling's ability to repair, and even "fight or flight" cannot save you. Fear at the level to where moving becomes a distant memory, like what color shoes you wore when you were 5 months old, or what your very first teacher's voice sounded like. That level of fear where the only reaction available to you is a blood curdling, throat ripping, bone chilling sound that you cant even register as coming from you.
Her eyes tore open to see Mitzie, eyes bloodshot, face pale, on the verge of passing out, staring right beside her. Kaden looked to where Mitzie was staring, and felt sick to her stomach. She tried to squirm away, only to find that she had been tied to a pole no more than two feet away from Floaty's corpse. Veronica must have seen her move, as she turned to face Kaden and smiled. Mitzie looked at her in betrayal, and Kaden was reminded of her promise to keep him alive, along with everyone else. A promise, which had just been irrevocably broken.
