He gets scared:
When Joe gets scared, he would wrap his arms around you to make sure you are as close to him as possible. Even though he is the man of the relationship, he feels protected and safe when you are in his arms. You would feel his body shaking slightly, so you rub his back and sides to calm him down. This helps him stay calm and soon you both fall asleep in each others' arms.
