The sight amazed me. It was more beautiful than anything I had ever seen before. I jumped up and flew up to the branches above. I slowly lowered my self onto the branch and looked around. The moss on the trees felt soft beneath my bare dirty feet. I stretched out my wings and lowered myself into a vine hammock below. I lay down and curled my wings around myself. It was so warm behind my wings. The wind wasn't affecting me and my wings produced a wonderful heat. I snuggled up but then I heard a voice yelling below me.
"Levana! Now is not the time for resting! We have to go to the village hall!"
I sat up and looked over the edge. The shift in weight caused the vines on the edge to twist and the hammock flipped with me in it. I started plummeting while trying to extend my wings. I was falling head first towards the ground. My wings would not uncurl properly and I could not change the angle I fell. I uncurled one wing and flew right into a giant leaf. As I hit the leaf my other wing uncurled and I slipped off the leaf straightening them. I landed on the ground with a thud and got my black wings dirty with mud. I looked up and Scarlett who had a worried face and Faolan who was just staring with disappointment. I stood up and brushed off the dirt.
"What a landing." He muttered. "But we have no time for this nonsense we must leave now." He turned around and continued walking.
I decided to walk with Scarlett instead of flying through this maze.
"So, do you know what species this guy is?" I asked her with a smirk on my face. I knew that there was some sort of connection between them but I wasn't quite sure.
"I don't really know the name of the species, but when I was younger my parents told me about an ancient species that you don't see much of today, like vampires, but the two races were at war. We probably still are. I see the disgusted way he looks at me whenever I show one of my powers. I also read that their species are some kind of wolf."
He yelled from in front of us, "You want to know my race? It's called werewolf, and I don't look at you with disgust, just your vampire side. My race was taught to hate yours. Were at war, it's just here no fighting is allowed. Unless it's a duel where you practice your magic. I was taught to despise your kind, or at least the vampire side of you. Can you blame me for hating it? But I must admit you're pretty nice. I could have been your friend if you were some other race."
I heard Scarlett next to me curse under her breath. I looked back at Faolan then at Scarlett. They definitely had a connection, just weren't allowed to show it. Faolan stopped a few meters in front of us then turned around. "We are about to meet the founder of this safe haven. Make yourselves look presentable."
I flattened my messy hair and so did Scarlett. She tried to rub the blood off her arm but it just smudged. I ripped a little bit of cloth from the end of my pants but still making it look like it came ripped and wrapped it around the blood mark making it look like a war band. "There," I muttered turning back to Faolan. He rolled his eyes and stepped inside. I quickly glanced at Scarlett. She was staring at another small building, built similar to the one in front of us. Inside I could see medical supplies, beds and some wounded people lying down asleep. I turned back to her and tapped her shoulder, indicating to follow Faolan. We quickly scuffled after him gaping at the decorated interior. Flowers were scattered across the thick branches that covered the hut. Vines sprouted from the ground all across the room heading high up to the branches above acting like support pillars. A large chair sat at the back of the room. It was black with spikes sticking out from the rest of the room. A woman with raven black hair and piercing green eyes sat on the chair looking bored as another dressed in war armour stood next to her speaking. The woman herself wore black armour possibly not more used for combat but for looks. She had on a chest plate that did not cover her left shoulder and left her arms bare. It wasn't thick and was shaped exactly to her size. It did not cover her collarbones either. She had on long leggings with a short skirt over the top. Her right shoulder was covered with a plate along with both her knees. She had a band from her elbow to her wrist on her right side and a series of skinny tight bands on her right forearm. She wore large black leather boots that went up to her knee. She had no weapons, which was surprising. She looked like she relied on strength alone and was able to block any attacks coming her way explaining the openings in her armour.
