XAVIER
The next day, we waited. We waited outside those woods for hours until I finally had my Bunny’s scent.
The separation had nearly succeeded in killing me. I needed Bunny unlike anyone else. Knowing that she was out there, hurting, pained me. It was worse with the guilt of knowing that it was my fault she was in agony.
I told my pack to stay on the outskirts of the woods. Now that I was sure that my Bunny was there and waiting for me to save her, I didn’t want to take any chances of messing this up.
I ran with superhuman speed through the woods, following her overwhelming scent of flowers. I inhaled deeply, savoring it. Smelling those flowers reminded me of her honey-brown eyes. The way her long, dark brown hair cascaded in waves past her shoulders and down to the middle of her back. The way she blushed a light strawberry pink or dark cherry red. The way her lips and touch brought pleasurable electric currents through my body. It reminded me of her.
I came to a clearing where Tanner and his makeshift pack was talking. My Bunny was laid on the ground, unconscious. I coughed to gain their attention.
“Well, well. Isn’t it the noble Alpha?” Tanner mocked.
To be honest, I handled our encounter a lot better than I thought I would. I had imagined strangling him with my bare hands for touching my Bunny. I had imagined a one-on-one sword battle like on the TV, where I came out victorious and carried my Bunny. Hell, I had even imagined a magical horse popping out of nowhere and carrying us away.
I’ve got to quit watching chick flicks with my sister.
“Give her to me,” I demanded in my Alpha tone.
Tanner looked back at her with distaste. “Oh yes. Her. Well, first you must make me Alpha.”
I glared. I didn’t trust Tanner to keep up his end of the bargain. “Give her to me.”
“And how will I know whether you’ll step down?”
I wavered. “It’s her.”
He smirked. “True.” He looked at the two guarding her. “Bring her to him.”
They weren’t gentle about it. They threw her at me, and I had to use my fast reflexes to catch her and absorb the impact. I cradled her in my arms.
“Now that you have her, step down.”
I nodded, and met his eyes. I was going to enjoy every second of this. “I, Xavier Michaels, renounce my rank as Alpha. In my place will be…” I had to fight my laughter at his excited gaze. “Helen Michaels.”
“Noo!” he roared in rage.
As soon as a wolf in my pack shifted for the first time, I made them swear a blood oath to always protect my sister. Tanner couldn’t touch her without breaking a deadly blood oath.
I smirked at him, enjoying the moment of panic that scattered across the rebel pack’s face as mine invaded.
Kurt kneeled beside me. “Is she okay?”
I looked down at my Bunny’s gorgeous face that was in the process of bruising. Her breaking was even and her heartbeat was steady. Other than the blood and bruising, she seemed perfectly fine.
“I think so.” I focused all of my senses on her. “They just drugged her.”
Kurt nodded as a gun was fired. I dodged just in time. Tanner’s pack had recovered and was firing guns at mine.
“RETREAT!” I ordered. “RETREAT!”
We scattered in separate directions, faking disorganization before we attacked again. Then we retreated for a final time.
That should teach them to mess with us.
I ran to the hospital where Bunny’s father quickly cared for her in the ER. The rest of my pack soon joined me, where the werewolf doctors took care of them.
“You know he’s gonna try again,” Kurt said sadly.
I nodded. “Next time, we’ll be prepared for whatever scheme he comes up with.”
The End
