I haven't seen Alexander in a week. It was now the 11th. I longed for him. I'd sent him 27 missed phone calls and 52 texts. I was worried about him.
I knew he'd moved to the fancier part of town with Eliza. She didn't know about us. She doesn't need another heartbreak. I knew for a fact that they were doing fine but everyone knew they were distracting their sadness in sex. They stayed in their house every day and the neighbours hear non stop noises. Everyone in the area starts to wonder why they aren't both sick.
My friends, Hercules and Lafayette says he looks constantly tired.
"I've been to see him a couple times. It isn't good. If he's out, it's alone. If it's inside it's with Eliza in bed. It can't be healthy." Lafayette says, his accent thickly French.
"Usually I would make a joke or laugh but I can't. Someone really needs to help." Hercules says in his usual gruff voice
"They're probably scared they'll walk in on them.."
"Guys. It's none of our business. And if it is, then it's our job to help." Says all knowing saint Burr.I keep quiet. I wish it was me comforting him. I wish I could pull him close and kiss him and whisper sweet assurances into his ear in the dark as we lie next to eachother under the duvet. I'd heard Eliza had an affair with someone at the same time as Alex did. She doesn't deserve him.
I soon swallow my words though as the next day my friend the bartender at the pub told me something.. shocking.
He said "did you hear about that hamiltons wife passing last night. People are saying they are at it like bunnies on a honeymoon and that's why she died."
I ran straight out of the pub and up to his neighbourhood. I saw the signs saying 'for sale' sandwiching one bare beige house with a 'garden' of overgrowth climbing up the walls. That was his house, for sure.
