"amelia you've ought to head to the train station soon," one of the caretakers said as they shook amelia from her sleep in the orphanage.
waking up to her dimly lit room, amelia rose from her bed, throwing on her usual ripped jeans and sweater combo. she laced up her boots and began gathering the few things she usually brought with her to hogwarts.
glancing at her room, amelia felt a wave of anxiety rush off her shoulders. going back to school was always a joy to amelia. her bed at hogwarts was much more cozy than at the cold orphanage. thinking of the welcome back meal to come almost made her stomach grumble.
amelia walked down the stairs into the common room where one of her caretakers, emily, was sat feeding one of the younger children.
"got everything you need?" she asked.
amelia nodded her head, readjusting the small bag on her shoulder, "see you soon."
exiting the orphanage, amelia began the ten minute walk to the train station. she couldn't wait to see her dorm mates, willow and penelope, and catch up on how their summers were.
amelia's was always the same, a summer full of nothing. and an occasional visit from willow. penelope was always visiting country after country during her summers, something amelia envied.
"amelia!" willow called to her brunette friend.
turning her head amelia smiled as she saw her friend run up to her, giving her a hug.
"mum brought a new sweater for you," soon willow's mum, jane, handed amelia a beautifully knit blue sweater.
"thank you so much, as you can see i really appreciate it." amelia smiled, referring to the black sweater she had on.
jane gave amelia a big hug, asking how the orphanage was and what she did all summer. the trio made small talk as they made their way to the platform.
"wow, would you look at malfoy," willow nudged amelia, "that suit is mighty fine."
amelia felt her face heat up at the sight of draco malfoy. he did truly look dashing in his very proper black suit. she had always thought he was cute, and willow and penelope never let her hear the end of it.
"you should talk to him," jane added as willow and amelia laughed.
"mum," willow sighed, "malfoy is an arse."
jane rolled her eyes at her daughters language, giving her a hug, before doing the same to amelia. she bid them farewell as they made their way onto the train.
the two girls headed to compartment seven, where they sat every year. penelope was sat reading in her usual spot near the window.
"well look who it is," willow gave penelope a hug as did amelia.
"you've seen malfoy, haven't you," penelope winked at amelia who was dazed looking out the window.
she rolled her eyes at her friends who began to taunt her about the white haired boy.
"he does look proper fit," amelia shrugged.
the girls all talked throughout their ride back to hogwarts about what they were expecting in their sixth year. testing, quidditch try outs, and practicing dark arts were among the topics, although amelia was quiet throughout the discussions.
"well be arriving at hogwarts in approximately ten minutes, please get ready," a voice spoke over the trains sound system.
willow and penelope left for the toilets first to change, leaving amelia to watch their stuff.
as she stared out the window consumed in her thoughts, the door to the compartment opened.
"oh, wrong person," ron weasley spoke as he stared at amelia.
amelia rolled her eyes, "willow went to change."
he nodded his head quickly shutting the compartment door and fleeing.

as they sat in the hall eating dinner, amelia couldn't help but roll her eyes at the way pansy parkinson spoke about her summer spent with her boyfriend back home. she wouldn't stop.
"i think i'm going to head off to the common room, maybe unpack," amelia spoke to the girls seated near by.
"leaving quite early jade, going to visit someone special?" penelope winked.
amelia just shook her head, leaving the hall and heading to the common room.
as she walked into the common room she noticed draco sat on the couch in front of the fire. he was intently reading a small black book before he looked over at the frail girl who entered.
"amelia," draco nodded towards her.
"what're you reading?"
draco quickly put the small book beside him as amelia walked towards him, "none of your business."
taken aback amelia held her hands up in defense, "just making conversation... good night draco."
amelia soon began walking up the stairs towards her dorm so she could begin unpacking, leaving draco sat with his thoughts.
