malfoy manor had never been so grim. bellatrix lestrange sat with the dark lord in the malfoy's dining room, waiting for the few death eaters abruptly called to enter.
narcissa malfoy sat in her kitchen drinking tea, anxiously awaiting her sons arrival from wherever he had gone earlier in the day. she nearly dropped her tea cup as draco and a petite brunette appeared in the kitchen.
"where have you been?" narcissa asked, voice trembling. she didn't even have time to ask who the girl was before she ushered draco into the dining room.
"sorry about that dear," narcissa came back into the kitchen shortly after escorting draco to the dark lord.
"and you might be..?""amelia. amelia jade," she answered shortly. "i'm in slytherin house with draco."
narcissa nodded, offering amelia a seat. "so i would presume you and my son are dating? draco's never brought a girl to the manor."
amelia's eyes widened as she faced draco's mother, "i mean, i guess you could say that."
the brunette/blonde haired woman gave a small smile, "i must say you're especially gorgeous, my draco is very lucky to have you."
nodding her head, amelia lightly tapped her fingers along her thighs feeling awkward.
"i presume you know what's going on," narcissa looked towards the dining room and back at amelia whose eyes were focused on the black dining room doors.
"um," she really didn't, "i have an idea of what's going on mrs. malfoy. draco's made it clear to me the position he is in."
draco's mother nodded her head, not wanting to get worked up over her sons loyalty to the dark lord she stopped pressing on the subject.
"you can go wait," narcissa stood from her seat, "in draco's room of course. i don't want you to feel obligated to stay here with me, it'll be less awkward once draco returns."
amelia felt herself laugh at the woman's bluntness, and the two shared a small chuckle. narcissa left the room without another word leaving amelia to explore the manor. she had been in draco's bedroom once before and had somewhat of an idea on how to find it.
passing the closed dining room doors, amelia found herself quickly walking up the concrete stairs, one floor to the next. once she got to the floor draco's bedroom was on she made the journey to the end of the hallway, opening his bedroom door and stepping inside.
draco's room was the same as it had been right before they left, except the bed at now been made. presumably by the house elf.
she climbed her way onto the tall bed finding it hard to keep her eyes open as she laid her head against the feather pillows.
;
draco didn't know how long it had been, but it had been long enough that the sun was now setting. his mother and amelia were nowhere to be found, and although draco wanted to panic, he figured amelia went to his room. he was right.
she was fast asleep in the middle of his overwhelming bed, she looked so peaceful.
draco walked over to his wardrobe, hanging up his blazer and taking off his dress shoes. he wanted to completely change, but feared if amelia woke up in the middle of him taking off his trousers it wouldn't be the best sight.
walking over to his bed, draco began untying amelia's trainers, dropping them one by one on the side of his bed. slowly, he pulled the covers from under her, climbing into bed beside her and pulling the covers over the two.
he found himself content for the first time in the last two days, holding amelia's sleeping body close to his chest. she smelt of vanilla and pumpkin, like a candle, he thought. looking over at the clock on his bedside table it read 12:32 am, the date being december 31. it was amelia's 17th birthday and draco found himself realizing he never got her anything.
"fuck," he swore under his breath, wanting to sit up and decipher a plan.
"noooo.." amelia whispered tugging at draco's jumper, his eyes widened realizing she was awake, "stay with me, please."
"i'm not going anywhere, darling."
amelia remained with her eyes shut and a growing blush to her cheeks as she cuddled up to draco's chest, "it's so cold."
muttering a spell under his breath, the fireplace at the front of draco's room soon lit up, adding some heat to the large room.
"happy birthday, amelia." draco whispered as he looked down at her, brushing her hair out of her face. she smiled, keeping her eyes closed as he placed small kisses all over her face.
her eyes slowly opened as she looked up at draco in the dark room, his hair standing out. she felt a sense of relief as she laid in his arms, knowing that no matter what, draco would remain by her side.
"it's already the 31st?" amelia rubber her eyes, looking over at the clock placed on the bedside table.
draco nodded his head, running his fingers through amelia's hair. she laid her chin on his chest staring up at him in the dark. the two laid there for a while, enjoying each other's presence in silence. he knew he should tell amelia what happened in the meeting, and no doubt she was going to prod at draco to find out. but he wanted to enjoy the day, after all it was her birthday.
"what do you want to do?" draco asked as she knit her eyebrows together, "for your birthday."
"oh," she never really celebrated her birthday, the nuns would usually get her a cupcake from the bakery near by, but that was about it, "i don't know, we don't have to do anything..."
"nonsense, we'll go out to dinner, or we could—"
"honestly, i'd be most comfortable just staying here."
draco rose his eyebrows, not expecting that answer. he hated staying at the manor. hated it. maybe it would be better now that he had someone to spend the time with.
"whatever you want, beautiful."
in the pit of her stomach, amelia felt the sense of loneliness she always felt, somewhat wishing she was in her usual state of mind. but she knew that if she was going through what was currently going on, alone, she probably would have gone mental. draco seemed to be blindsided with love and she knew that she didn't want to take advantage of that. in the out of her stomach amelia knew draco was the only one who would ever fully understand her.
and she knew she loved him for it.
