within two hours, narcissa malfoy received word from her son that the vanishing cabinet had been mended. she stood in the dining room, handing the letter to lord voldemort who applauded. he ran his fingers over nagini's skin, grinning at the long python.
"tonight. inform that everyone will be heading there tonight," he stood from his seat and quickly apparated out of the room.
back at hogwarts amelia was sat in the great hall eating dinner with penelope. draco's nerves were too high, he didn't feel comfortable leaving the room of requirement, so instead, he waited for her. they were trying to remain as inconspicuous as possible, especially since tonight was going to be a fatal mission. a fatal mission that would change the fate of everyone at hogwarts.
"you missed classes today- both of you, snape was losing it." penelope said, "and draco left before madame pomfrey said it was okay?"
amelia slowly nodded, her eyes were trained on the students day at the gryffindor table. harry potter's usual spot was empty, and being that draco hadn't come with amelia to get food, she was beginning to worry.
"amelia?" penelope shook her roommate after she grew silent.
"sorry, just got a lot on my mind," she picked at the chicken in front of her, "but yeah, he didn't want to sleep there all night."
"so, where did you sleep? you went in the boys dormitory?" penelope's eyes grew wide, "tell me all about it–"
amelia bit her lip, contemplating being honest or lying, "um, yeah, it's a mess up there– they really need to work on hiring some house elves to tidy it up."
"i'm surprised you didn't get caught," penelope was going to continue talking, but she paused when she noticed the large bruise like mark on amelia's neck.
she knit her brows together in confusion, "what is that?"
amelia ran her hand over the area her friend pointed at, wincing at the feeling of the bruised skin. she blushed, not wanting to make eye contact with penelope who was confused.
"i think it's a hickey," amelia laughed, "me and draco we–"
penelope's eyes widened, "oh merlin, you did not."
amelia nodded vigorously, laughing at her friends expression. they talked about it (as much as amelia didn't want to) for a few minutes, penelope intrigued by their premarital decision.
"i'm happy for you guys," penelope smiled, "i hope that i can be your maid of honor one day."
amelia rose her brows laughing, "one day."

by the time the clock hit just past 11, draco and amelia found themselves impatiently waiting in the room of requirement. draco was pacing back and forth, the heels of his shoes echoing throughout as he walked back and forth. he was wearing his black suit, though he nearly ripped the button off from nerves.
"go to the astronomy tower," amelia broke the silence, "just go, i'll wait here for them to come."
his breath hitched in his throat, "you want me to go? i thought we would go together?"
amelia sighed, "we're running out of time. if you head there now, i'll be there with the others– you aren't going to have to do anything, draco."
she walked over to him placing her hand on his cheek, she rubbed her finger along his soft skin. his cologne wasn't as strong as usual, and she could feel him slightly shaking against her.
"i promise, just go there and stall." amelia hugged him tight, not wanting to let go.
draco wrapped his arms around amelia's waist, running his fingers through her hair. she was right, the more time they wasted waiting the less time he would have to complete the task. he didn't want to kill dumbledore at all, and he had a feeling that his girlfriend was right. hopefully his aunt would make it in time to finish what he was going to start.
reluctantly, draco let go of amelia before softly placing a kiss on her forehead. he stared at her for a few moments nodding his head as he rushed out the door. amelia sighed, she took a seat by the vanishing cabinet beginning to count the seconds it was taking for the death eaters to arrive.
by the time she counted to 560 seconds, the cabinet door suddenly clicked open. bellatrix rushed from the cabinet, grabbing amelia's hand the two rushed out of the room of requirement.
"draco, is he with dumbledore?" she questioned. amelia nodded her head, trying to keep up with with the witch as they ran through the corridors.
penelope's father, and another death eater amelia didn't recognize were following after the two. amelia lead them to the astronomy tower, walking as quickly as possible to ensure draco was still stalling.
"there are others?" dumbledore spoke softly to draco, barely breaking eye contact when he heard the group of death eaters entering. "how did you manage?"
"the vanishing cabinet, in the room of requirement, i've been mending it–"
dumbledore looked towards amelia who now stood at the top of the stairs, "ah, with the help of ms. riddle is that correct? ingenious.
draco shook his head at amelia, he waved at her to push back, but she stood still.
"the two of you don't have to do this, you've both been great students– please let me help you, the both of you."
dumbledore broke eye contact with draco and focused on amelia as he spoke. she held her wand up, prepared to utter the killing curse if need be.
"we don't need your help– i have to kill you,"
"well it's not like he'll kill his only heir, isn't that right amelia?"
amelia glared at dumbledore knowing what he was hinting at.
"he can't kill one of his own horcruxes, draco," dumbledore took a step towards the blonde, "but he will easily kill you."
bellatrix and the rest of the death eaters rushed into the room.
"look what we've got here," bellatrix grinned.
"good evening, bellatrix," dumbledore stared at the witch. she was whispering to draco, urging him to utter the killing curse.
in a turn of events amelia lowered her wand, grabbing draco's hand when snape entered. she held his hand tightly, pulling him away from the scene that was about to unfold.
"severus– severus please," dumbledore barely spoke above a whisper.
without hesitation the words "avada kedavra" left snape's mouth, as dumbledore's lifeless body began to fall out of the astronomy tower.
draco's eyes widened as he saw the headmasters body fall in what seemed like slow motion. but no more than a second later amelia was dragging him down the stairs of the tower, with no time to spare in mourning.
