** important note — i have written in this chapter that draco AND amelia need to work on the vanishing cabinet, but obviously amelia isn't in contact with voldemort (yet), so obv she wasn't assigned to work on it. she's just trying to help draco so he doesn't get caught up. **
when draco and amelia returned to hogwarts, the two made it clear they were closer than ever.
after learning of the dark lord's frustration with draco for not being nearly done with the vanishing cabinet, the two knew it was time to focus. whenever they had free time they would swap places, going back and forth into the room of requirement. one would guard, one would practice.
winter grew colder and colder, and both draco and amelia knew they didn't want to waste any time wandering the cold castle halls. the sudden drastic climate change throughout the castle allowed the two to keep on task.
amelia wore her tightly knit slytherin jumper with her plaid skirt, paired with knee high green socks and black ballet flats as she left her dorm. she was headed off to breakfast, later than usual.
the great hall was swarming with students awaiting their parcels that were being delivered, amelia could barely find draco among the mess.
his bright hair could be seen behind a few first years as amelia walked closer to the table.
turning his head to look at what blaise had rose his eyebrows at, draco could feel his mouth twitch upwards as he glanced at amelia's outfit.
"got a hot date tonight, aye, amelia?" blaise chuckled as draco gave him a glare.
"hmm, i'm not quite sure," amelia shrugged, smiling down at draco's annoyed expression.
she stood behind him at the table, wrapping her arms around his shoulders, laying her head by his neck. draco gripped his hands over hers, feeling comfort from amelia's warm presence.
amelia bent down placing a short kiss on draco's lips, "meet me at the room after class."
and just as she had entered, she left, with willow and penelope right behind her.
"how's that going?" blaise nodded towards amelia.
"fine, zabini." draco rolled his eyes, not in the mood to entertain blaise and his perverted comments.
draco knew the cabinet could be fixed in a matter of days, if amelia and him put the effort in. with the cabinet being fixed, came the task to murder the headmaster; a task draco awoke thinking about every night. and as if it wasn't enough, amelia's heritage situation was only another bump in the road, causing draco's stress level to rise.
harry potter watched draco from the gryffindor table, examining his resolute behavior. he hadn't been harassing harry or the rest of the trio like he usually did. and as much as the trio enjoyed not dealing with malfoy's actions, the unusual behavior was too strange to not worry about.
ever since term resumed, draco and amelia isolated themselves; you could never find the two a part.
students in the great hall soon began to leave, heading off to the first class of the day. draco found himself walking amongst blaise, crabbe, and goyle.
as they all headed towards potions, an argument could be heard throughout the corridor.
"-it's none of your business, willow! mind yourself."
amelia's voice grew louder as draco and his friends rounded the corner to the dungeons. a circle had formed around amelia and willow, draco pushed through trying to see what the commotion was about.
"it certainly is my business," willow grew closer to amelia, "i won't continue sharing my space with the daughter of—"
before willow could finish her sentence, amelia had uttered "petrificustotalus," flinging willow on to the concrete floor.
"what is going on out here?" professor snape walked towards the crowd of students, finding his way to amelia and willow.
he looked between the two girls, not fully understanding what was going on.
"kinsley, help ms. hendricks to madam pomfrey." penelope grabbed willow's hand, pulling her up with the help of blaise.
draco was stood still besides crabbe and goyle, trying not to overreact to whatever it was that had just happened.
"jade, let's go." snape had begun walking out of the dungeons, amelia trailing behind him. she gave draco a look as she left; he didn't know whether to follow them or stay put.
not listening to crabbe and goyle calling after him, draco jogged towards amelia and professor snape who were headed out of the dungeons.
"what is going on ms. jade?" snape asked as amelia and draco leaned on the wall behind the staircase.
"we got into a discussion, and willow started threatening me— she was going on about things that are none of her concern, professor."
snape looked between draco and amelia, "you cursed her, you should be expelled. but, in order to keep you here, i'm going to give you several detentions— if anyone says anything."
nodding her head, amelia asked snape several more questions regarding what was to result from this.
"don't reveal yourself, jade. you're going to get us caught up in a mess we don't need right now." and with that, severus snape rushed back down to the dungeons.
"care to explain?" draco stood in front of the brunette, taking in the stress that was shown across her face.
"willow's mum— your parents, they went to willow's house and threatened her mum."
the brunette held her hand to her forehead, stress building as she relived what had happened a few moments ago.
"okay?"
amelia glared at draco, "okay? willow doesn't want to room with me any more, she wants to complain to dumbledore— tell him everything."
"if she wants to make this such an issue, we can simply tell my parents. they'll have her expelled or something," draco honestly wish he had better advise, but he didn't know what to do or what would be best to say.
"we could erase her memory," amelia thought out loud, "something needs to be done, draco, did you not hear her? she almost spoke about it."
taking amelia into his arms, draco gave amelia a tight hug, hoping to make her feel a bit more at ease.
"snape knows what to do," draco ran his fingers through amelia's hair, "i'll owl my father, inform him of what's going on. it will be handled."
the two stood there for a while, knowing that it was probably the last moment of peace they would have until everything had settled.
little did they know, harry potter was stood around the corner, listening to every word they just said.
