once the dark lord gave amelia and draco the okay to return to hogwarts, amelia soon found that willow hendricks was no longer enrolled in the school.

"she got an owl from her mum, apparently she's really ill, she had to go," penelope explained to amelia.

as amelia unpacked her small bag, she kept quiet at penelope's commentary on willow, knowing deep down willow's mum wasn't sick. willow had to leave to be murdered, not to care for her mum.

luckily the students in the hall during willow and amelia's confrontation had all seemingly forgotten; or nobody wanted to say anything to cross amelia.

deep down inside, amelia riddle was sad. depressed even. the only person she could vent to was draco, and although she had all love and trust in draco, it got quite exhausting to only have the male to talk to. penelope's parents were recently acquired death eaters, and amelia had thought to vent to her for a while, but she didn't know who to trust. she thought willow (and willow's mum) were trustworthy, but that thought was quickly proven false.

"penelope," amelia cut off her roommate, "i hate to be a cunt, but i need a friend."

penelope rose her eyebrows surprised at amelia's bluntness, "well, what do you mean? i've always considered you to be my friend— you just chose malfoy and willow over me."

the two stared at one another knowing the conversation had grown bitter. neither wanted to argue, but it seemed that the conversation was leaning more towards angst than sorrow.

"i'm sorry i made you feel that way," amelia offered a small smile to which penelope walked over and gave her a hug.

"it's not okay, but we can work on it."

amelia laughed and for the first time in a while she had felt a slim amount of genuine happiness from her friends presence.

the two talked for several hours, catching up on everything that hadn't been discussed over winter break. the girls strayed from discussing anything to do with willow or what happened, much to amelia's delight. apparently penelope and blaise had broken up; she told amelia she secretly liked gregory goyle. amelia had to stop herself from vomiting.

;

it had gone dark when amelia and penelope finally ended their long talk. well past curfew was when amelia decided to leave her dorm, heading towards the room of requirement.

walking throughout the halls, amelia remained cautious, making sure nobody was following her. as she entered the room of requirement, she found that the vanishing cabinet was uncovered— draco was nowhere in sight and the two made sure to cover it every time they left. someone had been tampering with it.

deciding against walking back to the common room to find draco, amelia pushed her stress aside, reading over the repairing spell-book. she knew that draco and his family had nothing to worry about; there was no way tom riddle would kill the malfoy's, amelia wouldn't let it happen. she knew if her father were ever to threaten her with the murder of her love, she'd go into hiding again.

draco malfoy and amelia had happened so quickly. the two had always been acquaintances in classes, but this year, a whole relationship blossomed. it was as if fate knew what the two were going to be going through, setting them up to have trust in one another. if draco malfoy hadn't become the closest thing to family amelia ever had, she would probably have nobody but penelope left. it was for the best that willow and her mother disowned amelia; she didn't need negative energy in her life, especially not now.

amelia knew her situation wasn't something to dwell on— there was nothing she could do to change who she was. only, how she evolved.

as she sat reading over correction spells, amelia barely heard draco's harsh footsteps against the concrete.

"where have you been? i haven't seen you all day."

glancing up, amelia stood pointing at the white sheet on the floor, "the cabinet. it was uncovered when i came in here, i'm pretty sure we kept it concealed before we left for the manor."

draco rolled his eyes, annoyed she disregarded his question, "we did cover it, someone must've came in here, probably just curious as to what it was."

"why would someone come in here and just decided to look under this sheet of all things? there's a whole room of stuff to look at. this is too specific."

knowing amelia was right, draco heavily sighed. now they were going to have to go on the hunt for whoever it was watching their every move.

"probably potter," draco nearly spat, "he's been watching me at breakfast."

"i wouldn't be surprised, honestly."

shrugging her shoulders, amelia stood from the small loveseat she was sat on it. she walked over to draco who was stood in the middle of the walkway, wrapping her arms around his neck, she held him tightly. draco wrapped his arms around her waist finally feeling his angst subside as he stood in amelia's arms.

"we should run away," draco whispered in her ear, "i'll take everything from my parents vault— we can just go away forever. not have to deal with any of this, my darling."

amelia lifted her head from draco's shoulder, his face was so serious she couldn't help but belt out a laugh.

"you're mental," amelia shook her head, "that's absolutely mental. we can't just leave, they would find us. and what if i don't want to leave? what if i want to fight?"

"fight for what, amelia? your father is voldemort for merlin's sake— nothing is going to get better, it's going to get worse. i've been tasked to kill dumbledore, our own headmaster; this is the start of a war, a war that we should have no part in."

draco had placed a small space between him and amelia, he was beginning to get worked up.

"you don't want to fight for what you think is right?"

draco furrowed his brows, "well, what do you think is right then, amelia? because last time i checked you thought it was right to want to have some type of relationship with your father, lord voldemort."

amelia felt herself getting hot, she was beginning to get agitated that draco wasn't agreeing with her.

"what's right is to support those who have been most loyal to us, to fight for the end of people thinking a certain way. to fight for the end of normality."

"i have absolutely no idea what you're saying right now, but what you're saying isn't right," draco answered.

the two stared at each other, annoyed. draco had honestly wished he stayed in his dorm instead of going out to look for amelia; he wouldn't admit that to her of course.

"i love you, amelia." draco broke the silence, "i don't love whatever it is you're becoming."

and with that draco left his girlfriend, stood in the middle of the room of requirement, alone with her thoughts.
