Reuniting isn't always a welcome thing

I'm sorry but I have to put a minor trigger warning. Nothing is explicitly said to have happened but there is a quick mentioning of suicidal thoughts. And there's some blood- not sure if that's a thing that needs a warning or not. I promise it's not too bad, but you've been warned.

The air is thick inside of Camila's new Toyota Camry. Time runs slower when all you do is count down the time, and to Lauren, it feels like they should be on the other side of the country by now.

She refuses to acknowledge the other girl in the car. For all she knows, Lauren could be in the midst of another mental breakdown and all of this is in her head. But it feels so real.

Five more traffic lights until the hospital.

All Lauren can do is stare out of the window and press harder on the cut on her hand. The pain is something new to focus on. It gets harder to ignore the situation while stopped at a red light, though. She can feel eyes on the side of her head and it encourages her to turn even further away than before.

Three more traffic lights until the hospital.

"Lauren?" The silence is broken but Lauren is determined to make it to the hospital without any contact with the other girl. She refuses to act on the instant reaction and feeling of rage when she hears the brunette's voice, so she remains silent.

One more traffic light until the hospital. We're in the home stretch.

The light turns red and the car comes to another stop. Lauren's eyes are now locked onto her destination in front of them. She can see parts of the girl in the drivers seat in her peripheral vision. She can see that the brown eyes are locked on the side of her own face.

"Lauren." Now it comes out soft and almost impossible to hear. Almost like she is scared to break the silence. As she should be.

"Please talk to me Lo." Camila begs, not aware of the amount of blinding anger it creates in the green-eyed girl.

A girl is like a volcano. She can only hold so much anger until boom. And you do not want to be around when that happens.

"You do NOT get to call me that." Lauren seethes. "You cannot come here and act like I owe you anything." It takes every ounce of her to not explode. Right now, she is like an active volcano that is simply letting out little streams of lava. It takes every ounce of her energy not to explode at this point.

"I'm sorry Laur-" is all Camila can get out before getting cut off. "Unlock the fucking door. Now. I will walk the rest of the way."

"I can't do that Lauren. We will be there as soon as this light changes and your hand is dropping blood." She observes the blood-stained rag.

"I don't want to hear your voice. I don't want to feel your presence. I don't want you anywhere near me." Lauren replies, knowing that she does need her hand checked out as soon as possible and walking will just take longer.

The light finally switches to green after what feels like forever. As soon as the car is in park, Lauren's door flies open and she is speed walking towards the front door.

Camila waits up front for half an hour, she hasn't seen Lauren and is hoping she is with a doctor right now. She asks the lady at the front desk where she was and the lady gave her a room number. She slowly walks toward it, but catches a glimpse of blonde at the doorway. She'd know that hair anywhere.

Knowing that this is a horrible idea, Camila finally decides that it wasn't meant to be. She turns around and starts the walk of shame back to her car.

"Camila?" Oh shit.

She debates turning around or just running to her car and skipping town forever. Before she realizes, she is facing her old best friend Dinah.

This would be an amazing thing, but the look in the blonde's eyes could freeze somebody to death. "Hi Dinah." Is all that can squeak out of her mouth before the Polynesian takes long strides towards her.

"You are fucked up, you know that? Did you do this to her?" Camila knows that this anger is justified, but ouch.

"I didn't, but I brought her here. Is she okay?" The look in Dinah's eyes looks even scarier than before. "Are you telling me that she saw you? DID YOU TALK TO HER?" She starts to lose her cool knowing how much Lauren has worked to forget about Camila at this point.

"I cannot fucking believe that you have the nerve to show your face around here. Around us, around her. You broke her. To the point of where I was worried that she would take her own life. Do you realize how hard she has worked to get to this point? Do you realize how far she has come, especially after dropping down past rock-bottom? You don't deserve to be here. You need to go back to wherever you care from and you need to stay there." The tears are freely falling from both girls' eyes.

They didn't notice when Lauren popped her head out of her room to see what the commotion was all about. She also had tears in her eyes. She knew that everything Dinah said was true.

The bandaids that have been holding her heart together are starting to fall off again with camila's presence.

"Dinah, I'm sorry. I didn't want this to happen. I just-"

That's it... The slapping sound of Dinah's hand on camila's cheek practically echoed through the hall. Normani arrived just in time to see that and Lauren's face pop out of the doorway and into the room again. Instead of running to Dinah to see what is going on, she dashes to Lauren, catching the girl as she falls to the ground with tears flowing down to the floor.

The hospital security comes over to investigate and Camila informs them that it was her fault before she exits the building.

I know this has a rough start, but patience is a virtue. Thank you so much for reading this series and please let me know how you feel about it. Every bit of feedback helps ❤️
