Camila's POV

Knock knock

The sound of a heavy knock on the door echoed through my apartment, making me jump and run the paint brush across the canvas I was painting on.

Damnit, whoever this is better be a Girl Scout selling me cookies because they just ruined my 3 hours of work.

I get up with a sigh and wipe off my hands before answering the door. Lauren. She's the only person that knows I'm staying here. At this point, I'm practically running to the door and flinging it open.

"Laur-" Nope. All I see is a flash of blonde as the person darts into the apartment. Am I getting robbed? Oh god please save me- I just started getting my life together.

"Yo. Earth to Camila. Did you hear me?"

I don't know how to react once I see that it's my old best friend, Dinah. The last time I saw her, there was a collision between the Polynesian's hand and my face (which I still have a bruise from).

"Oh. Uh no I didn't. I thought I was going to die?" My response draws out a chuckle from the intimidating blonde, which somehow makes the situation slightly less scary. That is, before she returned to her serious stance.

"I said why are you back? Lauren told me everything and showed me the paper you gave her." Can't a girl just have a break? Jeez.

"I just had to get my side of the story out. I didn't mean to see her again, I swear. I figured that she would be better off never seeing me again. I've been in town for months successively avoiding all of you, but I guess looking back at it, I was bound to run into somebody eventually." I didn't realize it but Dinah is actually really scary when she wants to be. I am almost shaking under her cold gaze.

"You realize that I'm put in a difficult situation right now, correct? You've put all of us in a bad situation to begin with, but coming back made it worse. Now she has to live knowing that you're right around the corner from her. Lauren won't admit it, but I know she believes you. She has always had a soft spot for you no matter what you've put her through." Wait. Is she telling me what I think she is? I'm beyond confused at this point.

"But she has a girlfriend. She is happy. Please don't ruin this for her. We are all happy, chanch." I can't help but smile at the nickname despite the heartbreak I'm feeling right now.

"She's happy?" The only thing I want is for the girl that I love to be happy. If that so happens to be her falling for another person, so be it.

Dinah's face morphs into an expression of sympathy as she nods in confirmation.

"That's all I want." Even though I am happy that Lauren is happy, my heart is shattering into pieces. The only thing that got me through these years was the hope that all could go back to normal eventually. That I still had a chance with Lauren.

My eyesight starts to go as the water builds up in my eyes. The dam breaks as the Polynesian grabs me into a comforting hug. All I can do is sob and bury my head further into her shoulder.

After a while, I finally look up at her. She's studying my face and once again gives me a look of sympathy.

"I'm sorry I hit you. I'm sorry for ever believing you would purposefully hurt Lauren. I thought you were back to torture her further and I was trying to protect her."

"I understand." I honestly need a break from everything. I want to be like Fry in Futurama- just freeze for a little while and come back way in the future and get a fresh start in life. "Can we talk about something else? Anything else?"
