Texts between Camila and Lauren

[Camila 5:23 PM]

When did you want to head out tonight?

[Lauren 5:25 PM]

Hey. I'm so sorry. I got kinda tied up and I don't think my plans for tonight will work.

[Camila 5:25 PM]

Oh. Okay, no worries.

[Lauren 5:27 PM]

I really am sorry, maybe we can reschedule for tomorrow? I wanted to grab dinner and maybe catch a movie.

[Camila 5:23 PM]

That sounds fun. Not gonna lie and say that I won't miss you tonight though

[Camila 5:23 PM]

We can still hang if you want. I have to run an errand and pick something up before 6

[Camila 5:23 PM]

Yay! Swing by whenever you're ready.

Camila's POV

Not even five minutes later, I hear a knock at my door. I spring up and run to answer it. It feels so wrong living without Lauren now. It has been just over a day since we last saw each other and I feel so deprived already.

I swing open the door and jump on her with my signature koala hug and she wraps her arms around my waist as I hear a giggle. "I missed you so much babe." She laughs some more and slowly eases me back on my feet.

She pulls out her keys, "I missed you too, but we have to go now before they close. I have a feeling you're going to love this trip." I reach for her hand and we race to her car.

"So, where are we going in such a hurry?" I look at her and she has a massive smile on her face.

"Well, I've been volunteering with our local animal shelter, taking pictures of all the animals for their website and stuff. And I may or may not have gotten roped into a new project with them." I raise my eyebrow in curiosity, waiting for her to explain what this new project may be.

"I just got approved to help foster. They said they have the perfect first foster dog for me and we're going to go pick him up." My face lights up and I can't contain my excitement. "We're getting a dog!" I practically shout, making her start laughing. "Well, it's going to be my dog since we aren't living together, but you can come by to see him whenever you want."

"So... What you're trying to say is that we're getting a dog." I state matter-of-factly.

We finally finished packing up the car with all of the dog care things that the shelter provides: food, a crate, two bowls, etc. and the worker is finally taking us to the kennels and get our new little man. " Carrie said this guy will be perfect for you. She saw how well he took to you during the photo session and he has been with us for a while now. His temperament is perfect, but everybody overlooks him because he is a pit bull mix and they usually go for the more standard 'family dogs' or the young ones. What a shame though, he is a perfect dog." The girl grabs a leash and walks us to the dog. He was just sitting and watching us with a sad look in his eyes. Poor little guy.
