PART TWO COMING YOUR WAY SOON

"Today, we have Lexee Gomez here with us!" The interviewer says with a bright smile. "Are you by any chance related to Selena Gomez?" She asks. We are sitting on separate couches. The interviewer leans over to ask the question.

I laugh, genuinely amused, even though I get asked that question on a daily basis. "No, not that I know of, but sometimes I'll tell people that we're like second cousins."

"Sometimes I'll tell people that Zendaya is like my first cousin once removed," the interviewer supplies, waving her card full of questions.

"Yeah, like second cousin once removed, first cousin twice removed sort of thing!" I add. "They wouldn't know."

"Exactly!" The interviewer laughs. "Okay, so you've been signed with this new record label for about a month now, and you've already released a new song! How does that feel?" She positions her head on her hand, waiting attentively for my answer. She seems genuinely interested, and it makes me feel like I'm talking with my friend, not some random person, in front of cameras that are recording what I'm saying for thousands to watch.

"Honestly, it's so unreal," I gush, all my nerves seem to have slipped away and my excitement takes over. "I can't thank my team enough. We've all worked around the clock for this song. I'm so thankful that they allow me to express myself through the writing process and with the music video. It makes me very proud that this is my first song."

"And it's already a hit. All the hard work must have paid off."

"I wouldn't say it's a hit just yet." I shy away, and I think it makes it noticeable that I'm not entirely used to the spotlight yet. "I haven't heard myself on the radio, but I'm shocked that I already have quite a steady and dedicated following. A couple of my fans put together this video for me a week after the music video released. It was so cute. It was them promoting my song in ten different ways. This girl blasted it in the middle of all her classes. It was funny, but I hope she didn't get in trouble." I trail off at the end, thinking about it and feeling genuinely worried for my fan. I truly hope she didn't get into trouble because of me, no matter how cool that was.

"They do sound quite dedicated. So what inspired this song?" It was not that subtle—the transition, but I didn't mind. She's just asking what everyone's thinking. I learned that it's part of the industry.

I breathe deeply, preparing myself before replying calmly. "It was a lot of things really, but I had recently gone through a heartbreak, and it was draining—the break-up in itself and the months leading up to it." I remember to keep it vague because although I know that my life is no longer my life with the career path I'm taking, I want to keep as much of my relationships as private as I can. Somethings are just for me. "I still love him very much—I feel like that's a given—but I just realized that sometimes it doesn't work out when you want it to. The painful truth was that I deserved better."

"So anyone who has followed you for the last few years knows that Nick Mara from the boyband, PRETTYMUCH, inspired this song. There are some rumors that they're going to go on tour with Jack & Jack in the future." I smile at that. I already heard from Charlotte. She said it wasn't 100% yet, but they're all hopeful. I am too. We still kept in touch because we bonded since the moment we met. "What do you have to say about that?"

"I'm proud." The interviewer looks at me curiously, prompting me to explain. "We broke up, but it's not like I'm going to stop supporting him because we're not together anymore. I know this is all he's ever wanted, so I'm happy for him. I'm sure that's how he feels about my accomplishments too. That's how we've always been." I smile, a small one because that's all there is to it.
