When I arrived back at my apartment I was in a little better spirits. After I had showered and cleaned up all the cuts I made my way to the kitchen to fix myself something to eat. My phone buzzed signaling a text as soon as I opened the fridge. I sat down at the kitchen table to answer, knowing it was this new mystery emo DJ I had just met. He sent all the details to this gig just like he promised. Just as I was replying my roommate and best friend returned.

His name was Todd. A lot of people give me crap for living with a guy. Like obviously because we live together we have to be hooking up or we are secretly together. No, none of that crap is true. It's cheaper to split rent and he's been my friend for years. Wouldn't even think about hooking up with him, it would be way too weird.

Todd is about 6'3 and pretty athletic looking. Not like muscles galore but looks like he could probably beat you up. Good looking guy and he knows it. We would look terrible together. I'm like 5'2 so he towers over me.

"Hey. Where you at?" He shouts as the door closed.

"Kitchen!" I yell. "How was your date?" I question eagerly as he enters the kitchen and throws his keys on the table.

"It was good. Kristen's a cutie." He said sitting down. "What the hell happened to your arm?"

"I got run over by a skateboarder."

"Bastard. How bad's that hurt?"

"He was so sweet about it. Got me napkins and everything. And it's kinda tender but it should be fine tomorrow." I tell him as I look at my cleaned up arm. "But while we are talking about it he told me he DJs and he's doing a gig tomorrow and asked me to bring some people. Why don't you invite Kristen? Good opportunity to grind all over that." I tell him and he laughs.

"Yeah sure. This sounds sketchy as hell though." He said as he stood up and took his jacket off.

"I know but I know the club it's at and it'll be the weekend so let's just have some fun!"

He shrugged and walked out of the room. "Sure" he called while he went to his room. "How was work?" He asked from his bedroom and I was suddenly reminded of how much my life sucks.

"I got laid off." I told him.

"What?!" He shouts and is suddenly back in the kitchen in record speed. "Why?"

"Said they were cutting back and then told me I wasn't organized enough and they were going in a new direction and all this bullshit."

"Oh, Bay. I'm sorry. Are you doing okay?" He asked.

"Yeah. Honestly the skateboard DJ really cheered me up. Who knew getting run over would lift my spirits?" I joked and he rolled his eyes.

"Well I know you aren't going to tell me shit so if you need anything you know where I live." Now I rolled my eyes.

"I'm fine, Todd."

He put his hands up and walked out again.

"Invite Kristen!" I shout at him while texting some of my girlfriends to come this weekend.

I texted Sonny back telling him I was putting a group together to go and he seemed pretty excited. I asked more about his music and I could tell he was happy to talk about it. He told me he used to be into different stuff than what he's doing now but he thinks the transition is good.

We ended up texting all night which at first I thought was weird but I liked having someone to talk to. That just made it sound like I have no friends. I do, I have plenty but there is always something so appealing about talking to the opposite sex even if you're not like flirting. I don't know how to explain it. Maybe it's just because I find him attractive.

I ended up only eating a bowl of cereal for dinner and I stayed up most of the night just staring at the ceiling stressing about this job.

The next morning Todd and I decided to get breakfast at a local cafe and I brought my computer to begin the hunt for a new job. We ended up sitting outside and I set my coffee aside to pull my laptop out. I looked like hell. I had sunglasses on to try and cover my eyes that looked had huge bags under them. I was wearing this baggy old plain white and maroon baseball tee that was cut in the middle leaving a little 'V' with some leggings and ratty old boots. Pure hell.

I ended up downing my coffee while looking for jobs online. See I have a bullshit degree in Public Relations which I then put to use by doing event planning. I loved my job so you can see how it broke my heart when the fired me. And it's damn near impossible to find anybody with openings.

I stood up and told Todd I was going to go get a second cup which he gave me shit for drinking so much coffee. I was stood at my seat rolling my eyes at his little speech when I noticed two skateboarders coming down the sidewalk towards us.

"Oh this is too good." I told Todd but he had no idea what was happening. He turned in his seat to look.

"Sonny." I said and he jumped off his board startled.

"Baylee! I didn't even notice that was you."

"Running over anymore chicks?" I asked with a half smile and he smirked.

"No, I've learned my lesson." I saw him glance in Todd's direction.

"This is my roommate Todd. Todd, this is the skateboard DJ."

"So you're the guy who destroyed her arm?" Todd says.

"Hey." I warn and he rolls his eyes.

"Nice to meet you man." And he sticks his hand out. "You're the one DJing tomorrow night?" He asks.

"Yeah. Should be a good turnout." Sonny tells him. "This is my friend Anton." He introduces the dude next to him.

We say our hellos and I decide to give Todd some shit. "Todd here is bringing his new girlfriend." I tell Sonny.

"Okay, one date doesn't make her my girlfriend."

"Girlfriend." I tell Sonny a little more quietly.

"I hate you." Todd says "Don't you have a coffee to get or something?"

"You guys are more than welcome to sit and eat with us if you'd like." I tell them but they decline. "Okay, well I'll text you sometime and then we'll see you tomorrow." I tell him and he smiles.

"Can't wait." And the two of them jump back on their boards and leave.

"Dude's got a major thing for you." Todd says once they are out of ear shot.

"How can you tell? There was no flirting going on at all." It was true we hadn't really flirted all that much.

"I can just tell. Guy thing." He says. "He's a peewee too." He laughed and I shot him a look.

"I'm a peewee too! We can't all be blessed with tall genes." And I leave to get another cup of coffee.

Running into Sonny made me oddly excited for tomorrow.
