Cause I'm feeling just the same way
Every Wednesday at three o clock, Jeongin was expected to be at the doctor's office. The repetitive process of having blood samples taken was very dull and had stopped being exciting after the second visit. There was a tiny lump on his wrist, raised just a little higher than the rest of his skin and a little paler too, it looked like it had been stretched taut. For those who didn't know him, it was a mosquito bite or similar, but others knew that it came from countless needles tapping into his veins. Everyone had life scars, and this was Jeongin's.
However, it was a Tuesday, which meant the boy didn't have to undergo the weakening process and could, instead, talk to his best friend. Over the phone, obviously. Leaving the house was overrated. Previously, Jeongin wouldn't have called Hyunjin his best friend; being unable to choose between Minho and Woojin and him, now he found the decision much easier. So, naturally, in his contacts, Hyunjin's name was 'Emotional Baggage'. This was especially wonderful when siri decided to get involved.
The familiar tune to Love Scenario began blasting through the room as Jeongin stretched over the couch to grab his phone from it's charging corner on the coffee table.
"Innie, I missed you so much," an overexcited voice yelled, sounding particularly horrific because of the low audio quality. Jeongin cringed away from the volume, almost hanging up right then and there.
"You saw me yesterday?"
"Yesterday morning," the elder whined, "It's been almost twenty four hours you meanie, how could you forget about me like this?"
Jeongin rolled his eyes involuntarily, thankful that Hyunjin couldn't see him over the phone, "I admire your soulmate, apparently they enjoy excessive cuteness over the phone," but the younger boy's tone remained affectionate.
"I admire them too." The elder mumbles, sounding slightly unsure of himself, which confused Jeongin a little. "Anyways, me and a friend are going out for lunch tomorrow, do you wanna come? I think you'd like him, and it might be good for you to be around new people." The worry was hidden but still there, Jeongin was almost angry that Hyunjin would still focus on him even though he had made new friends. He would never tell him that, of course.
"I can't, hyung, tomorrow is bloods day." The younger was relatively surprised that the elder boy didn't know that, considering how close the duo were. There was something off with Hyunjin, but Jeongin couldn't quite place it.
"Oh." The sigh was small, but spoke volumes. Hyunjin had forgotten. Before Jeongin could say anything in response, provide any words of comfort or reassurance, the tell tale blip that signalled hanging up sounded.
And, just like that, Jeongin was alone again.
He mindlessly scrolled through Instagram, taking polls he didn't care about and liking the posts of people from school who he wasn't particularly fond of. The app was draining his freshly charged battery, which only served to irritate him further. He almost threw his phone across the room with indifferent frustration.
The cup of pot noodles he heated in the microwave were now cold. The grease had risen to the surface and settled, causing a film of fat to condense over the noodles. The chicken broth itself had sloshed over the side of the cup, leaving sticky marks on the coaster and Jeongin's fingers when he went to throw the offending item in the bin.
Tears began to roll down his cheeks for no reason other than pity and he hated himself for it. He hated how self centered he was, even when his best friend was struggling. Chan had made him a better person, but now all of that was flying out of the window because he couldn't keep himself in check, even worse, his phone had run out of battery.
Jeongin hated pitying himself. He hated that it caused chain reactions of sadness within his body and he hated how normal it felt. He hated it all.
A/N - Bit of a filler I guess?
