I've been sitting in a conference room for three long hours with three strangers and Anthena.
My lawyer, Braxton's dad, and a social worker. We're trying to figure out what's best for Braxton right now. Braxton's dad doesn't want him, I do. The social worker, however, feels that he's better off with his father. Because, his words, not mine, "every son needs his father".
"I don't understand why you find it necessary to plan this whole meeting just to try to give the kid to someone who doesn't want him," Athena said. "Finola has been with Braxton since the day they met, she treats him more like a son that that sorry excuse of a man ever has."
"I understand that Officer Grant, but he is his father." Mr. Callahan, the social worker said. "He deserves custody."
"But he doesn't want custody." my lawyer said "He's said many times before he would rather Miss Davidson take care of Braxton.
"Fine," the social worker said as he got out a briefcase with a bunch of papers in it. "These are adoption papers, they will take months to process."
"This means that Braxton will most likely have to stay in the custody of the father or be assigned a foster family in the meantime, whichever the father chooses." my lawyer announces.
"I don't want the kid," his dad said. What a douche.
"Okay then, he will be randomly assigned to a foster family, and if everything comes out clear in about a month or two, Braxton will be your adoptive son.
"Thank you so much," I said as I shook everyone's hand.
Athena and I walked to her car and talked.
"So are you excited?" she smiled as she stepped into her car.
"Hell yeah, I am," I said, "I can't wait for all of this to be over."
"Tell me about it," she sighed "tell you what, I'm gonna invite you to have lunch at the firehouse. I'm not supposed to invite people but I have a feeling you'll be an exception."
"That sounds nice." I smiled looking down at my phone as it lit up.
Bucky: Hey! How'd it go?
me: Pretty good :) I have some big news, but I'm gonna tell everyone in person
Bucky: wdym??

"What are you smiling at?" Chimney asked as he took my phone from my hand "Ohh Finny?? Is this the girl from the rollercoaster"
"What the hell man," I said as I took my phone back. "and yes, this is her"
"Ooh," he said wiggling his eyebrows
"Shut up," I rolled my eyes at him
"Speaking of the devil," Bobby said, "Here she is!" He pulled her into a hug, she reluctantly hugged back.
"Hey bobby" she smiled, "nice seeing you again."
"Finn baby," I heard from behind me "How've you been?"
"Hey Hen." she smiled as she hugged Hen.
She and Hen have become close in the past few weeks. Hen's son, Denny, has been hanging out with Braxton a lot lately. They're almost inseparable now.
"I've been good," she smiled "thanks for asking."
"What's the big news?" I asked her.
"Well," she smiled looking down at the ground. "In a couple of months, Braxton will officially be my son."
A series of congratulations and screams of happiness can be heard throughout the firehouse.
"That's so awesome Finny," I said walking toward her pulling her into a hug. "It's really awesome"
