Caroline woke up and looked startled, nearly jumping up.
"When did you-? What a stupid question" Caroline said sitting up.

"Question is - when was I not here?" Klaus said.
"All this time- since they - put you to sleep? I still don't get it? You are dead, but you are not dead?!" Caroline huffed frustrated.
"Well, we are - in a way undead. Our mother had this protective charm on us. And when the witch killed us- well, we turned."
"Yes, you said - you are vampires, but not entirely." Caroline said.
"Yes. We are some strange kind of haflings-hybrids. So is Elijah. That's why he can walk in the day." Klaus said.
"But you said that this strange weird witch cursed him - to be a man and a vampire - and you are that - but not due to a curse? I am lost."
"It's the crazy ancient magic mother has had in her. Our whole ancestry line comes from witches that go back 5000 years ago." Klaus continued explaining.
"Ok. But, why did that witch pick on Elijah?"
"Well, it's a classic example of unrequited love." Klaus said.
"Ok. I don't remember Elijah being with anyone seriously. I mean he always hooked up with Hayley, but, she still hangs around him. So, it's not her."
"He had lots of girlfriends. He went out with Celeste for years. They met in college. We all thought he is going to marry her, but then, just before graduation, they broke up. He never wanted to talk about it. Then he just had an array of insignificant hook ups. Till he started dating a woman again. He seemed to be falling in love again.

Though he denied it, and said that it was just a non-exclusive thing. But I saw him with her, and it seemed that it was more."
"So, what happened?" Caroline tilted her head, curiously waiting for the answer.
"I don't know. But I saw her with him again a few days before everything went - mad!" Klaus said."She seemed so sweet. And he looked happy. I need you to find out what happened exactly. One thing I know is that she is dead. And I thought that maybe you can reach out to her. Her name was Lindy."
