Once upon a time in a make believe city there lived a man cursed to be a vampire by night, and by day just an ordinary man.
And one day, a girl, who didn't know she possessed the power to uncurse him came to live in his house.
That same girl fell in love with the cursed man.
And even if she hadn't, she would have done her utmost to break the curse set on him.
Because evil must not win.
Elena craddled her daughter continuing to tell the story of the cursed man, and the girl discovering she was a witch.

"We are not here to judge you." Rebekah said.
"No. We're here to tell you that we know what you have done for the family all these years. The sacrifices you've made." Klaus said.
Elijah looked at his siblings feeling his soul weighing hard. He felt happy and sad at the same time.
"We are here to tell you that you are the best brother ever" Kol said.
"It's time to forgive yourself and embrace love and happiness that is awaiting." Klaus said. "We will see you on the other side of the rainbow"
Elijah gulped recalling the moment in the magical vault.
"How are you?" Klaus said as he walked into the room.
Elijah turned around facing his brother.
"Better. I mean - physically I feel fine. You?"
"Being man again and not a ghost - pretty good I must say" Klaus replied. "I can't tell you how happy I am to see you again. More so."

"Me, too, dear brother. Me, too!" Elijah said with a joyful voice.

In Caroline's apartment
"Will you come with me?" Elena said turning to her friend.
"Of course. Anyway, Klaus and I are kind of having a date thing. A real one. Nothing big - just going out later. Thank you." Caroline replied.
"Please, stop with thanking me all the time."
"Come on - it was not really like just hocus-pocus. It was crazy. The house was shaking like you were battling some crazy demons."
"Well - it was kinda like that." Elena said placing a little kiss on her daughter's forehead. "It's finally over. And we can start living some kind of normal life."
"What about you and Elijah? Will you - forgive him?"
Elena sighed a little not giving her friend a reply.
* An hour later, Elena walked into the study, the same room she had met him for the first time years back.
Though she was far from the girl back then, her whole being felt weary. Her stomach flipping nervously.
After a moment of silence, Elijah finally spoke.

"Please forgive me. I have never meant anything I've said - the hurtful words - the way I acted - especially the last time we saw each other - this was not me - not my true self."
Elena inhaled deeply. She knew who the real Elijah Mikaelson was. The man of a warm heart, loving and loyal. He would never hurt her. Or anyone per se.
"I know. I forgive you"
"You do?"
"Yes, Elijah. I do." Elena nodded.
They say that compassion is the closest thing you get to love. But honestly, isn't compassion just as great? Being so broken inside that your own cries get stuck in the back of your throat. Your sorrow brings you so far gone that you can't even shed a tear. Your screams get lost in your head. Is compassion not so much as love entwined.
