MARCH 2009.
"perfect timing!" mr.song beamed, as twelve-year-old yoongi walked inside the piano class-room, showing no emotion on his small face. he walked over to his individual piano, like the other students had, and sat on the chair in front of it.
eleven-year-old alex watched as he opened his piano book to the piece he was practicing from across the room. being the curious little girl she is, she always wondered why that boy was so quiet and mysterious.
however, being the shy little girl she is, she never approached him nor befriended him. no one really spoke to each other in piano class, anyway.
"alex," mr.song called her name, and she picked up her piano book from the stand, walking up to the main piano.
piano class would usually run like this.
there are 8-12 people attending each class, regardless of levels. there are twelve individual pianos in every classroom. to practice your current piece or practice a new piece (depending on the level you are on) the teacher would call you up to the main piano to play in front of the class. other students can practice while you play, but keep their piano's volume low.
alex was on level 4, while yoongi was on the intermediate level. you could say yoongi's a pretty fast learner to be at such a level at such a young age. alex, on the other hand, had only started three years ago.
alex played her piece, and received some feedback from mr.song like usual. a small smile graced over her lips as mr.song told her she would be learning a new and more complex song.
"the spring recital is coming up," mr.song announced to the class. turning back to alex, he smiled warmly towards her. "i know you'll play this song very well, dear alex."
for the next three minutes, alex learned the first three bars of the song. however, she was having trouble keeping up the chords with the notes in the treble clef.
mr.song sighed, thinking of a way to help alex out. he first thought of letting her learn both the right and left hand herself, but since the song was a little complex, he decided to let her seek help from another student. that would also help this class know each other a little better as well.
he already knew exactly who to choose.
"min yoongi," mr.song called, making the boy look up from his piano. "would you do the honor of helping alex with this piece? you've played it before, and you played it very well."
yoongi blinked, taking in the man's words. he was not used to talking with other students, let alone speaking with a girl. speaking with someone of the opposite gender other than his mother was something new to him.
surprisingly.
after pausing for a long time, he nodded, following his teacher's orders. "yes, mr.song."
alex was quite surprised herself, as she had not expected to have another student to help her out with a song. she was shy, so surely she felt nervous.
mr.song smiled at the two. "lovely. you two can may get started now."

alex felt awkward around yoongi.
as he played the entire piece for her, she watched as his fingers moved smoothly on the piano, playing the right notes at the right timing. it was as if his fingers were meant to play the piano.
once he finished, he turned around to look at alex. her mouth was slightly open, her expression showing that she was in awe.
"you're...really good." alex mutters, making eye contact with the boy. yoongi studied her expression, although he showed no expression when he replies "thank you."
yoongi was about to switch seats with her when alex spoke again. "how did you become so good?"
the boy sat down again. alex patiently waited for his answer, as she fidgeted with her fingers.
"i practice," he bluntly states. "my mother is a piano player as well. she told me that if i practiced with passion, i'd be a good piano player."
alex hummed in response. yoongi tilted his head, "do you have a passion for piano?"
the girl furrowed her eyebrows, contemplating his question. she was forced by her parents to start piano classes, and she went without knowing what would happen. alex liked the piano, but wasn't sure if she loved it.
yoongi made her feel like she wasn't good at playing the piano, quite frankly.
"i-i don't really know..." she replies, breaking eye contact with yoongi. he continued to study her expression without questioning the reason why she didn't know.
he spoke up again, "maybe try practicing," he pauses waiting for alex to make eye contact. once she does, he says "but this time, do it with passion."
