Chapter 4 : The Hunt

//Near the Hunters' camp//
Percy's POV
"Its been a long time since we have talked alone Artemis." Oh, crap. I realised this was the man hating goddess of the moon Artemis. My suspicions were confirmed when I saw her pure silver eyes. "It sure has been aunt Hestia. What are you here for?" Artemis stated. Even though she was a man hating goddess she was strikingly beautiful. I was currently behind Mom so Artemis could not see me. "Can we go somewhere to talk Artemis? Its really important." Artemis nodded and we reached a silver tent. We went inside and Artemis saw me. "Who is the boy?" She said the last part with venom. "Artemis if you respect me then you will listen to me and will not treated the boy as scum." Mom replied. "This is Perseus Jackson. He is a demigod. He is the son of Poseidon. Unfortunately, he had an abusive step father who abused him and killed his mother. Me, Persephone and Hades adopted this child. He's just seven years old so your hunters and you can make him an ideal male. We want him to stay with your hunt so that he can train. He is probably the child of the prophecy." Artemis nodded her head and turned to me, "Perseus we will train you. But at first it will be hard because the members of the hunt are not very big fans of males. "

"I'll try my best Lady Artemis. I will try to get them to like me." "Very well. I like your determination. First we need to go to my hunters to inform this development. You know, some might be happy." "Why?" "Because many have had to leave their little brothers at home since we do not allow males to come to our camps. From now on you'll be am exception to that rule." 

After this Mom flashed away and we went to the hunters' camp. I hid behind Lady Artemis as she had told me. Artemis said, "Hunters gather around I have to make an important announcement."
Artemis' POV
I watched as the hunters gathered around me. Perseus was standing behind me. I have to say he got his eyes from his real father. When all the hunters had gathered I began, "Hunters, today Lady Hestia and Lady Persephone told me to recruit a boy into our camp so that he can train here." As soon as I said this arguments broke out in the crowd.  I heard one say, "That's a violation of our rule. We don't need filthy boys in our camps." I was really happy when I heard this. I had taught the girls well. But they were wrong this time. I had a smirk on my face which only two of my oldest hunters could pick on. "My lady, where is this boy and how old is he?" Zoë asked. I smiled and I brought Perseus forward. He had an emotionless expression but you could see the fear in his eyes. "Girls, this is Perseus Jackson he is the adoptive son of Hades and Hestia. His mortal mother was killed by his abusive step father. He has come here to train and some of you can help him." Some hunters were still angry while the older hunters were deep in thought. Phoebe was really happy because she could get a new brother. "My lady, can I talk to Perseus." I nodded, "I have to go to Olympus. Be careful and take care of him." I flashed away.
Percy's POV
When the hunter asked to talk to me I was really scared. What was she going to do? "Phoebe, what are you doing? He's a boy." I heard someone say. "Lily I just want to talk to him." She gestured to me and I followed her to another tent. We entered the tent and she turned to me. "Hello Perseus. I am Phoebe one of the older hunters." I said, "I am Perseus Jackson but I prefer to be called Percy." She nodded, "I am a daughter of Ares who is your godly parent?" "Well it's complicated. My real father is Poseidon but he never came to me or gave me any signs. Then my step father killed my mom and I ran away. I met Lady Hestia and Lord Hades. They adopted me along with Lady Persephone." "Do you know why I called you here?" I shook my head.
"Because you are like my brother who I left many centuries ago to join the hunters. I did not like males but I loved my brother very much. I don't know what happened to him but that was the biggest regret of my life."
"So, does that mean I can treat you as my big sister?" She looked shocked but nodded. She turned to go. Just as she was about to exit the tent I jumped on her back and yelled, "PIGGYBACK RIDE!" She laughed and started walking with me on her back. I have to say after Mom's death this was the happiest I have felt yet. I always wanted an older sister. When we reached the campfire most of the hunters looked shocked but the more experienced ones had a smile on their face. I got down but I felt my hair raise and on instinct I ducked. I turned around and saw a silver arrow stuck in the tree behind me. I looked at Phoebe and let me tell you when a child of Ares gets angry run. That's the only thing you should do. Because at that moment Phoebe looked that scary, "Who shot that arrow?" A hunter who I recognized as Lily raised her hand. "Lily, I warn you shoot my little brother here again and you will not see next day's light." I put my arms around her waist. She seemed to calm down after this. "Listen to yourself Phoebe. That boy has turned you against your own kind." Many hunters agreed. Phoebe was going to shout again but I cut her off, "Phoebe it's fine. If the hunt will have fights amongst itself I might as well leave." "At least the boy has some sense." One of the hunters said. At that moment Artemis flashed in, "Lily and the younger hunters just listen to yourselves. You are talking to a seven year old child. You guys can turn him into an ideal man. The ones we stand for." The said  hunters lowered their heads in shame. "I'm proud of the older ones that at least they accept a child. Phoebe I'm proud of you the most. Do treat him as your own brother ." Phoebe nodded. After a few moments of silence Dad and Mother flashed in.  All the hunters bowed to them while I just went and hugged them. "Artemis and Zoë we need to talk to you." They went to a tent. I wondered what they could be talking about.
Zoë's POV
I wondered what Lord Hades and Lady Persephone wanted to talk to me about. "Artemis, Perseus will stay with your hunt and train for 3 years. Then I will take him to the underworld for training with the souls of dead heroes." Lady Artemis was about to speak up bit Lord Hades cut her off, "Artemis they are not involved in Perseus' life that's why the ancient laws will not be broken. I want you to tell about Perseus to no one except Apollo because he will eventually know while riding his 'chick magnet'." He said the last part in air quotes. I despised Apollo because he was the type of man all of us hated. One thing I knew about Apollo was that he really cared about Artemus. I hated only one man more than Apollo because he was the reason I was here. That man was Heracles. He was an arrogant, lying and deceitful man who just used me for his own good. I even gave him my favourite sword Anaklusmos or Riptide. "Zoë, Zoë you there?" Lady Artemis waved her hand in front of me. I realized I had tuned out of the conversation." As I was saying before your hunter tuned out Hestia told me to give this bow to Perseus." He took out a bracelet which turned into a bow. The bow was flickering with flames. "It's a special bow which only Perseus can pick up. Right now I can pick it up because it has not yet met its owner. From my side I want to give him hunting knife sheathes. They will produce knives on their own. The knives will be made of Stygian Iron, Imperial Gold and Celestial Bronze." He took out four black hunting knife sheathes. "Zoë, we've called you here because we wish that you don't overreact when we show you this. When Heracles was about to die he left Anaklusmos and it was a great sword. I wish to give it to Perseus. Are you okay with it? Otherwise I can give him another sword. Originally I was planning to give him two swords but if you decline I'll give him only one." I thought for a moment. We could train Perseus and he could become an important asset. I did not hold any grudges against the sword and I would be quite happy to see it with Perseus. I just had one question, "Lord Hades what is Perseus' fatal flaw?" If it was pride then I would decline. "It's Personal Loyalty." I was shocked. Very rare heroes got that fatal flaw because it was the most dangerous of all. Even Lady Artemis was shocked. I came out of my shock and just nodded. We went out of the tent. I could already see Perseus' excited and happy expression when he got the weapons.

Percy's POV
While the four people were gone. The older hunters started asking me questions. "What is your full name?"
"Perseus Achilles Jackson."
"How did Lady Hestia, Persephone and Lord Hades come to adopt you?"
My expression darkened. "You can tell us Percy we are your sisters now." Phoebe said.
"Whenever my mom was working he used to beat me up. One day he tried drowning me but my injuries just healed when he put me in the water. Then he started burning me. Everyday he would beat me up and heal me as well. One day my mom came early to surprise me as it was my birthday. She saw my step father torturing me. So my step father raped my mom and beat her. She was in a critical condition and she told me to run to Central Park. There I met Hades and Hestia but I was being chased by monsters."
Phoebe was angry again, "I'm gonna kill that man!" "Phoebe you'll do no such thing. I swore on the River Styx to take my revenge on him myself if I ever met him again." I said quietly. All the hunters even the younger ones by experience who were hearing me were shocked. "Perseus I'm sorry. I did not know that this happened to you otherwise I would not have done so." Lily said. "Lily, it's fine. It's in your nature to hate males." I went and hugged her. She was shocked at first but hugged me back. I guess staying with the hunt wouldn't be so bad after all. "Well, I guess Perseus you might just survive in the hunt if you hugged Lily." Artemis said from behind me. "Son, I want to give you these weapons to help you in your journey." He gave me a bracelet, two pens and four knife sheathes. "Um.. Dad why did you give me a bracelet and two pens?" "Tap the bracelet." I tapped the bracelet and instantly a bow materialises in my hand. It was perfectly balanced in my hand. "Only you will be able to hold it and those who you allow to. Now uncap the pens." I uncapped the pens and 2 three foot long swords materialised in my hand. One was pure black and the other was bronze. "Put your hands near your sheathes." I did that and a knife materialised. "The knife is made of Stygian Iron, Imperial Gold and Celestial Bronze. The sword is made of Stygian Iron and the other is made of Celestial Bronze. These three metals are able to kill monsters and demigods. But are unable to harm mortals." I saw the weapons and was really excited to use them. "Hunters Perseus will be staying here with us for 2 years then for  2 years he will go to the underworld and then 1 year he will stay with us and then return to Camp Half Blood." I'll ask later what that place was. For now I was really tired and just wanted to sleep.

Whew! The chapter is done.
Chapter 5 will be done in max 2 days.
