I wake up that morning to the sound of a pounding on my door again. I groan as I get up,and sluggishly walk to the door with my eyes halfway open. When I open the door,I see a woman with purple dyed hair standing there with her hands on her hips and an angry expression on her face.
"What is wrong with you,Christina?" she says harshly.
"What are you talking about?" I ask confused.
"You haven't been to work in two days." she states.
"Oh,um,I'm sorry. I,uh...." I say not knowing what to say.
"Just hurry up. I'll be waiting for you at the tattoo parlor." she says with a wave of the hand before jogging down the hallway.
I shut the door, and think for a moment. Tattoo parlor. I guess that's Christina's job choice.
I walk over to the closet, and find a pair of black skinny jeans and a tank top. I rush into the bathroom, and take a quick shower, and dry my hair. I put on my clothes swiftly, head out the door, and run down the hallway to the tattoo parlor.
When I get there, the woman with the purple hair is already finishing putting a tattoo of a flowery skull on a girl's shoulder. I watch as the girl gives me an ugly look as she passes me out the door.
"I'm here,so,what do I do?" I say.
"Well, since you seem to be no good at giving people tattoos, you can just stay behind the counter where you can't hurt anyone." she says with a smirk on her face. I actually cringe a little.
I walk behind the counter, and stare at the clock hanging carelessly on the wall, and wait for customers to start piling in.
5 HOURS LATER
As I finish locking the doors to the tattoo parlor,I check my watch for the time. It's 5:00 p.m. I don't know how I even managed to get through the day without having to ask how to do something, but I got through it eventually. I did learn that the tattoo parlor is only open for three days during the week since the war,and today just so happenedto be the last of the three days for this week.
I start walking toward the cafeteria with my stomach rumbling loudly. My legs feel numb for having to stand still in one place for a full five hours. I try my best to fight the numbness, because I made plans on learning how to shoot a gun again tonight. Even though it has been awhile,I'm still terrified of guns, not only because of shooting Will, but, because I died from being shot.
When I walk into the cafeteria,I grab a hamburger, and sit at a lonely table. As soon as I sit down,I start gobbling down my hamburger, but try to go a little slower so I don't get sick after ward. It's only when I see someone sit down in front of me that I look up. Tobias sits across from me with a smirk on his face.
"You should slow down on that hamburger,Christina. You don't want ot get sick, and throw it all up." he says.
I furrow my eyebrows in mock anger.
"You dont say."
He laughs slightly, and starts eating his hamburger. I smile slightly at finally hearing a laugh out of him,and watch him take a bite. He catches me staring at him and says, "Why are you staring at me?"
"You haven't laughed or smiled in a long time. It's almost unnatural." I say with a smile.
"I know." he says looking down at the table. He pauses for a second, but changes the subject.
"I can feel her here with me right now." he says looking up at me. I swallow my bite of my hamburger roughly and nearly choke on it. I can feel the pupils in my eyes growing wide, and sweat slightly leaking off my skin. A pang of guilt hits me like someone just punched me hard in the stomach.
"Like what do you mean?" I say successfully without my voice cracking.
"I just can feel her presence somewhere around me. Do you ever get that feeling about Will?" he says looking at me with sadness in his eyes.
"Yes,sometimes I feel a slight shift in the air like there is someone watching me. I try to ignore it,but I know he's there looking after me." I say feeling another pang of guilt hit me. I just can't stop lying to him can't I?
He nods his head, and the same usual silence comes between us
When Tobias and I finish eating our hamburgers,we throw our trash away, and the both of us start walking down the hallway together.
"So what are your plans for tonight?" he says spontaneously.
I glance over at him,and say with a smile,"I actually was planning on trying to learn how to shoot a gun again. Would you like to join me?"
"I was planning on it." he says smiling.
We continue walking down the maze of hallways on our way to the training room without a word coming between us.
