Chapter 1

My mother always told me that love is stronger than death. I truly don't know now since I'm dead. I died sacrificing myself for my brother who betrayed me. If loves conquers all....why am I dead? This saying never crossed my mind till now. The moment when you realise that it's too late to ask yourself if love really can defeat death of if it was something meant for people who want some hope put back into there life. Even after death...I still don't know.

I sit at the foot of my old bed in Abnegation. My room looks the same as it was when I left to go to the choosing ceremony. Its....weired. Since I died everything seems brighter. The small window in the corner of my room used to only give enough light to see but now it illuminates the room. I guess light comes with the package of being dead.

Tobias walks into the room and sits down on the bed next to me. I have been waiting for him for awhile now. Uriah taught me how to get into his thoughts and enter his dreams because he saw how sad and empty I was even though that being dead was suppose to mean freedom from all pain and suffering. I dont know how I could ever live without Tobias. He is the only one who can take that emptiness of mine away.

"I love you,Tobias." I whisper in his ear. He doesnt hear me,as usual,but I like to think he does. "You are and always will be my life."

I see a tear run down his cheek and fall onto the ground. It breaks my heart to see him this way but there isnt anything I can do. I just sit there watching him. When he finally raises his head up,I stare determinedly into his deep blue eyes. Whenever I look into his deep blue eyes,I always think of them as a raging ocean that wants to carry me into its arms. There are some days that I wish I could run into his arms and disappear into that wide ocean.

I look away from him and down to his hand. I slowly lay my hand next to his and stare at his huge hand that lays against mine. His hand is a medium tan while mine are a pale white.

"Tris," he begins to speak. I quickly look into his blue eyes eagerly "if you're here. I want you to know that I still ove you and always will."

"I love you,Tobias,and forever will." I lean over and kiss him on the cheek as tears begin to cloud my eyes.

Tobias gets something out of his pocket that I recognize as my old watch. In Abnegation,you weren't allowed to have any accessaries or jewlry but they allowed everyone to have a watch. The light coming from the window reflects onto the frame of the grey watch and shines back like the sun. He wipes his thumb over the face of it and stares at the needles pointing to 4:45 before stuffing it back into his pocket.

"I need to start heading back,Tris. Zeke will be worried if I don't get back by 5:00. I'll be back tomarrow." Tobias says with sadness in his voice.

"And I'll be waiting." I say staring at the floor as he walks out of the doorway.Normally I would follow him back to his new apartment and watch him sleep but I cant. I cant stand to watch him scream and cry in his sleep as he yells for me to come back. I close my eyes as I listen to the sound of his footsteps as he makes his way down the stairs. I slowly get up and walk over to the window and watch him as he makes his way down the street.

I turn back around and lean against the window seel with the back of my hands resting on the edge and look at the floor. I watch as a tear slips down my pale cheek and falls onto the floor only to disappear mithout a trace. This is what it has been like for 2 and a half years. The same routine every single day. Spending all my time watching Tobias cry and sit quietly in my room,watch him as he leaves at the end of the day,and wait for that final tear to finally fall to signal its time to leave.

Instead of leaving, I walk over to my freshly made bed that Tobias made this morning and lay down. I close my eyes and take in the clean,fresh smell of the old grey quilt and sheets as I pretend to fall asleep.
