GAVIN'S P.O.V.
I thought about what I said through the entire drive home, and through the next two weeks. I kept trying to convince myself that I wasn't at fault, that Conan had nothing to be offended about. I was right, right? I almost convinced myself I was correct every single time, except there was a little voice in my head. You really should apologize, Gavin. You know full well that you're in the wrong. You not only hurt Chloe but Conan and most likely Richard as well, it whispered to me.
"I'm right," I muttered to myself. I was at my desk, in the middle of typing a report. Oh, the irony. We hadn't had any cases for a week, and then we were immediately thrown into a very intense case. A woman and her android girlfriend had been brutally murdered in their home. We found their bodies gruesomely mangled together underneath their bed. I couldn't even get close to the bedroom, memories crashing back in my mind in heavy waves. Conan looked at me questioningly but didn't say anything as I took a pill from an unlabeled orange bottle.
Even though the bodies were practically unrecognizable, I found a hacksaw stained in red and blue in the basement. The killer ended up being her jealous ex-boyfriend. It was a case that would have taken probably years to solve, but with Devo's limited knowledge of how murders are solved and with the wonders of modern technology, we were able to apprehend the ex-boyfriend fairly quickly.
And that brings us back to here, writing up the paperwork to this devastating case. I was halfway through my paper. Conan and I were on okay terms, I guess. We didn't talk about much except the case. The tin can sat stiffly in his chair, his eyes closed. I bet he was writing his report in his mind. He looked peaceful, and kind of cute? Nope. No way. I did not think that Conan was cute. Not. At. All. It was quiet between us, and only the clacking of my computer keys and Conan's low hum. (I didn't forget about that small little detail, did you?)
"Hey, uhm, Conan? I'm sorry for what I said at Kamski's. He was just getting on my nerves and I didn't mean what I said."
"I didn't take any offense. Your words were not meant for me," he said, not opening his eyes.
"But what I said about androids-" I pleaded. Why did I want so badly for him to not forgive me?
"Don't make me regret my decision." He snapped
"I have a question if you don't mind."
"Get your own damn coffee, Detective Reed." He said.
"That's not what I was gonna ask," I mumbled.
"What were you going to ask me then, Detective?" He asked in return.
"Why were you at Kamski's a couple weeks ago?"
"He had me over so he could install some new updates," he said.
"Oh? What kind of updates?" I pressed on.
"Just some domestic assistance advancements, a "meme" language package, and a vocal upgrade."
"Wait, wait, wait. Did you say 'meme language package'? No phcking way," I marvelled. "What kind of memes?"
"I have the most popular memes from your generation, such as Despacito memes, Alexa memes, Shrek memes, EU Article 13 memes, hand memes, memes about memes, SpongeBob memes, Kermit memes, gay memes, with no homo memes as a subcategory, and an endless library of vines."
"So if I say, 'I saw you hanging out with Katelyn yesterday-'"
"B-but Rebeca! It's not what you think!" He replied without missing a beat.
