Gap Year

As soon as the car door was closed and the kids on the way to the entrace of the school I drove off. Today I wanted to be just me for a while. Since I've been here I barely had time for myself. I spent most of my freetime with Shawn or the kids but with Shawn being away for a few days now I wanted to do something alone. Shawn already showed me a lot around Toronto and there was one spot I immediately fell in love with. So right now I was on the way to that place.

I drove a while until I was out of the city and drove through the nature. I tried to remember the way Shawn drove that day and after some time I actually made it. I parked the car and got out. I walked through the wood for a few minutes, enjoyimg the silence in here. Birds were chirping over my head and from time to time there was a sound of small animals running through the fallen leaves that layed on the soft ground. After about twenty minutes a came across a small river before the trees cleared up.

I was on top of a small hill with an breathtaking view over the city in front of me, the woods behind me.

The sun was brightly shining down on me and I smiled before sitting down on the grass, placing my jacket on the ground behind me. Everything looked so peaceful from up here. The trees were all painted in red, orange and yellow colors, some looking golden due the sun.

I knew that I would be alone here, Shawn told me that almost nobody knew about this place since it was too far away from the road. I actually was really surprised that I found it again.

I sighed happily and laid down, looking up at the blue sky. I closed my eyes and let the sun warm up my face.

I don't know how long I've been laying there but as I woke up the sun was almost setting. I looked down onto my watch before I jumped up in shock and ran back to the car. Once I arrived there I checked my phone, seeing lots of messages of Bethany. I quickly answered her, saying I was on my way back home before I started the car. She told me in the morning that she would get the kids from school today but I was already late for dinner so I tried my best to get home as fast as possible without crashing.

Half an hour later I parked the car in the drive way. As I arrived in the kitchen they already started eating so I quickly sat down on the table.

"I'm sorry I'm late, I forgot about the time." I apologized.

"It's okay, that can happen sometimes, don't worry. But please answer the phone, I was a little worried about you because you didn't tell me were you were going."

"I will. I was on that place Shawn showed me a few days ago. It was really beautiful there and I actually fell asleep." Bethany smiled at me, something in her eyes that I couldn't quite say what it was.

After dinner I helped her cleaning the dishes as she suddenly asked me something I didn't expect.

"You and Shawn are getting really close, don't you?"

"Yeahh!"

"Do you like him?"

"Of course, I love him, he's my best friend!" I chuckled.

"That was not what I meant." Bethany mumbled. I thought about it for a moment before answering her.

"I don't think so. And even if so, he would never fall in love with someone like me."

"You can never know that!"

"That's right. But I'm happy like this. And I'm not in love with him."

"Yeah I understand that." we finished cleaning the dishes before I decided to go looking after the kids and getting them ready for bed.

"But I think you would be a cute couple!" Bethany winked at me and I laughed.

"Good night Bethany!"

"Good night Leia!" she smiled before I walked out of the kitchen.

As I laid in bed two hours later I thought about the talk between Beth and I from earlier.

I stared at the dark ceiling above me as everything played in my head again.

Of couse I dreamed about being in a relationship with Shawn but that was before I met him and became friends with him. I mean, every fangirl imagines that in her head.

And of course I loved Shawn but only as a friend! Yes, that's it!

...right?
