Quinn spent the next few days— unlike her true desire, which was to be beside Rachel at all times— alone. With her mother out of town and Rachel still on strict surveillance, there wasn't much for the blonde to do. The end of her school break was getting dangerously close, so even when she was alone in person, she was constantly accompanied by a textbook or her (very neat, if she could say so herself) notes. Everyone around had always praised her on her excellent school attendance and grades. With the second highest GPA in school (Rachel topping the charts, as always), Quinn felt like slacking off for even a bare second could hurt her reputation and family life.
But there was Rachel.
The thought that even after these months Quinn hadn't truly gotten accustomed to.
Her grand awakening (as the brunette had dubbed it as herself a few hours later) had shaken the cheerleader to her core. Because even when she focused as best as she could, energy drinks and all in tow, nothing seemed to work. Every single word seemed to fade away, being replaced instead with 'Rachel'. Rachel, Rachel, Rachel. Oh, how she'd rather be learning about that girl than AP Spanish.———
"You really scared me there, Berry."
-
Quinn managed to choke out after a few minutes of comfortable silence. After the brunette had woken up (and Quinn had ended her short moment of sheer panic— and then gratefulness) she'd called the nurse, Rachel's father's in tow. The other girl had had trouble breathing at first, which had to be looked into by the doctor, followed by a number of tests to see if Rachel's accident had had any temporary damage. Quinn had stuck around, choosing to sit and wait in one of the hospital's uncomfortable waiting room chairs. After what felt like the millionth cup of (surprisingly good, perhaps Rachel's dad was right) coffee, she'd been told that Rachel could be visited. "Only two people at a time, though" the woman had added, which led to the blonde graciously letting her almost desperate parents go visit their daughter first. When her turn finally came, the other girl was sitting up in bed, staring out the window.
-
Rachel looked up. Quinn's heart sped up a bit after seeing Rachel flinch at the sight of her. After all, she was the one who put that flinch there."Hey, don't worry. I- I'm not going to do anything. I'm just. I'm so glad that you're okay, Rachel."
The blonde dared to walk a bit closer to the brunette, earning a sigh from her. No words left the other girl's lips, though, and Quinn pressed her lips together anxiously. Maybe this wouldn't be as easy as she'd convinced herself it would be for months now.
"Rachel?"
"You never called me that, Quinn."
It hit the blonde harder than she'd liked to admit, even though it was the truth.
"I know."
Was the only thing she could get out. A single tear fell from Rachel's eye as she finally made eye contact with Quinn. Neither girl said something, the silence saying enough for now.
"How's everything going in Glee Club?"
It was painfully obvious to Quinn that the brunette was trying to avoid talking about what happened. The weight of the situation lied heavy on both of the girls shoulders as Quinn took yet another step towards the other girl, just a few feet away from the bed she was sitting on. Quinn knew Rachel needed this right now, so she gave in, deciding to let the real talk rest for a while.
"It's- we've been missing you. Your voice, your bossiness. We- we really have."
The brunette swallowed deeply, more tears starting to roll freely down her cheeks. Quinn acted on instinct and walked over to the girl, resting her hand on her shoulder.
"I'm so sorry."
"I know."
-
It's when Quinn had been abruptly cut off by a doctor, who had spotted Rachel's crying from the hallway and told the blonde to leave. The thought of resisting it had been tempting, but she knew it would only make things more difficult. So she left to the message of Rachel's dad Thomas, that she and everyone else wouldn't be allowed to visit the girl for 'a few days, maybe even weeks.'
Which was exactly what happened. And then, at the exact two week mark after Rachel's awakening, Quinn still couldn't stop thinking about her. She picked up her phone to text one of Rachel's dad's— who had given the blonde their numbers after she'd explained her and Rachel's relationship thoroughly and honestly— to ask if their were any updates on Rachel's visiting hours.
-
She fled at the news that Rachel was finally up for visitation again. 'Under strict surveillance', sure, but at least she could see Rachel's face again. The brunette hadn't talked much, choosing instead to listen to Quinn pouring her heart out to the girl. "I'm sorry"'s being thrown at the singer caused her too to let the tears stream, matching Quinn's.
The days after that, slowly but surely other glee members decided to show up and try to convince the singer that they 'never meant for this to happen' when they'd treated her like shit for years. Quinn didn't buy any of it, and she suspected Rachel didn't either, but the brunette had played along as if she did. It scared the blonde how emotionless Rachel sounded when she talked, like the life had drained out of her even though she was still here, alive and breathing.
