'This is about... About a girl.'
His words made her tense a little, the atmosphere in the car shifting from light and funny into more serious one in a matter of seconds.
A girl? She has known him for years and he's never mentioned anything about a girl. It's not like there weren't any girls in his group of friends, but... He has never said anything about... "a girl".
'What about a girl?' Millie asked, trying to sound casual.
'I...' Finn said, cringing a little. He started to regret that he even brought up this topic. 'I like someone.'
Oh.
Oh.
Why did she suddenly feel so weird and uneasy?, she wondered. The fact that Finn liked someone wasn't anything bad. He was her best friend, he deserved to find happiness and love. She was happy for him.
She was happy and not at all jealous. There was absolutely no reason to be jealous.
'Who is it?'
'Whoa, I'm not telling you!' he said, embarrassed, burrowing himself more into the seat, his hands gripping the steering wheel a little tighter.
There was a red light so he could actually look at her, but he didn't avert his eyes from the road. It was clear that he was reluctant to talk about it and she couldn't blame him. Admitting that you have feelings for someone can be awkward, after all.
'How did you meet her?'
'She was involved in one of my projects and we... Like we immediately clicked, you know?' his eyes softened. 'I've never felt something like this before.'
Ouch. Well, it was inevitable that he would finally meet someone, doing so many projects and movies. But... He's never felt like this before? Never?
Millie thought that she had this special bond with him since the first day, a connection which was really rare and unique, but apparently she was the only one thinking this way.
Okay, maybe she was 98% happy and 2% jealous. What's 2%, right? It's nothing.
'Is she famous?' she asked. 'Like... I don't know, maybe I heard about her.'
He only shrugged, not giving her any response. It was really embarrassing, actually. He could feel the blush crawling up his cheeks, cursing internally for starting this conversation in the first place. It had to have something to do with this romantic shit playing from the speakers, that's for sure, he thought, pushing his hair out of his face in a nervous manner.
'Do your friends know her?'
'Some of them, yeah.'
'Do they know that you like her?'
'Umm... I'm not sure. Maybe.' he said. 'I think Nick might suspect something. I guess I was too obvious mentioning her once in a while in our conversations. But... He thinks this is just a crush.'
'It isn't?' she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.
So it was something serious. It meant that it was going on for a while. She felt a little hurt that he didn't tell her, but... Well, it wasn't his obligation. It's not like she was telling him everything, either. But she couldn't forget the times when they used to tell each other literally everything. She thought that they were close, that he knew that he could tell her anything.
'I...' he started, deep in thought, his eyes focused on the road. 'No. No, it's something more.'
Her heart sank at his words.
