TWO DAYS BEFORE THE FORMAL

*Trey's POV*

For the past few days, I've been trying to ask Briana to be my date for the formal. Every time I get to the point where I'm about to ask her, I always punk out. The formal is in two days, and I haven't made any moves yet. As I'm fumbling around with the tickets, my dorm room opens and Marcus comes inside.

"Damn bruh, long time no see. Wassup stranger?" I say as I laugh

"Oh I see you got jokes." Marcus says as he throws a foam football in my direction.

"Nah man, I just been wondering where you been at lately. Your new dude must got you all tied up."

"Kinda, I've been in his dorm for a few days, but I went back home for a minute."

"Oh you went back home? Everything straight?"

"Oh yeah, I'm good. I just needed a break from class for a minute. I was a little homesick, so I just chilled there for the weekend." Marcus says 

"Oh cool."

"Yeah, what's that in your hand bro?"

I look down at the ticket I was messing around with.

"Oh ummm...it's just a ticket for my frats formal in a few days.

"So do you have a date yet?'

"Nah, I wanna ask Briana."

'Bro what are you waiting for? Didn't you say it was in a few days?"

"I honestly can't even tell you. I think I like herx and every time I get ready to ask her, I bitch out." I say as I throw the football back to Marcus

"Man you gotta let that shit go and ask her before its too late." Marcus says

As Marcus is giving me advice on how to approach the situation, my text message alert goes off twice. I unlock my phone and see one Jack'd message, and another message from Briana. I ignore the Jack'd message and go straight to Briana's message. I smile after I read it.

"Is that her?" Marcus asks

"Yeah....she wants me to meet her in the student lounge."

"Well there's your opportunity bro. Go ask her."

I jump up, grab my phone and keys, and head out the door. I walk out the building feeling like I forgot something. I search my pockets and realized I forgot the ticket at my dorm.

"Shit!"

I run back inside my building and run downstairs to my dorm. I open the door, and Marcus is standing on the other side with the ticket in his hand.

"Damn...thanks man."

"You're welcome."

I grab the ticket from Marcus and run out the building. I almost fall down the stairs in the process. Let me calm my ass down. I play it cool, and make my way to the student lounge. I walk inside and the lounge and look around for Briana. Eventually I find her and see she's there with someone else. I'm shocked at the person I see.

"Hey Trey...."

"Wassup Briana."

"Wassup frat?" Zeke says

"Wassup Zeke....what are you doing here?"

"Wait you two know each other?"

"Yeah, we're frat brothers." I say

"You remember that pledge I was telling you about? This is him."

"Oh, I didn't realize it was Trey."

"Yeah, so how do you two know each other?"

"We have a few classes together and-"

"And we're dating too."

As soon as Briana says they're dating, I choke a little bit. My stomach felt like it dropped to my pinky toe, my heart pounded, in other words, I was crushed.

"Oooh, y'all are dating? How long have y'all been together?"

"Almost a year." Briana says

"Oh thats wassup..."

I dig in my pocket and take a peek at the tickets for the formal.

"Are those the formal tickets?" Zeke asks

"Huh? Oh, yeah. They are."

"Damn bruh, the formal is in two days and you ain't got a date yet?"

"I know. Its turns out the person I wanted to ask already has a date."

"Awww, you'll find someone Trey." Briana says

"Hopefully....look I wish I could stay, but I got some, uhhh....homework to catch up on." I say lying through the small gap in my teeth

"Aight man, just get at me later when you're done."

Zeke daps me up and Briana gives me a small hug. For some reason, her touch just does something to me.

"Aight y'all."

"Bye Trey."

I wave at both of them and walk out the student lounge feeling defeated. I pull the formal tickets out my tickets and stare at them.

"Damn man..."

I place the tickets back in my pocket and head back to my dorm. This is exactly why I don't do relationships. I swear this will be the very last time I let anyone get me caught up in my feelings like that.
