she closed her bag, and smiled brightly to her friends.
"you really can't come with us, jinae?" dahye asked.
still cheerful, she answered, "i really can't. i have an appointment today that i can't cancel. maybe next week? i'm sure i'll be free by then."
seungyeon sighed. she gives up, again, because jinae still can't join them.
"i'm really sorry guys. it's just that —"
"no. don't worry jinae. we understand." dahye said, trying her best to sound sincere because she really is. she's just worried jinae would think they're pretending to be alright.
seungyeon looked at jinae. she could see that sadness in jinae's face, and that gloom coming from her. "we'll plan this ahead. we'll inform you as soon as possible so you could put it in your calendar. then it's finally a day for us!" seungyeon said and hugged jinae as she tries to comfort her.
jinae is a good friend. but they can't help but feel wronged whenever jinae says she can't hang out with them. they'd love to be with her that's why they keep on asking her out despite knowing she'll just turn them down.
"come on." seungyeon lifted jinae's bag and put it on her shoulders. "let's go or you'll be late for your appointment."
seungyeon and dahye walked jinae down their building.
"you'll be waiting for?"
"eunwoo." jinae said. she showed them the back of her mobile phone to the two and said, "look. it says here that eunwoo is going to pick me up after class. should i text him first?"
"eunwoo? and sure, tell him you're already out. waiting." dahye said.
"eunwoo?" seungyeon repeated in her mind. "is it that guy who was with you this morning? that guy with white skin... and really cute?"
"cute?" dahye and jinae both reacted upon hearing the fescription seungyeon gave."what? i was just..."
"just text him now. we'll be leaving first." dahye said, cutting her off.
jinae laughed at the two. they are silly friends. that's how she describes them.
jinae quietly sat down as she let people pass by.
"let's see. how does eunwoo look like?"
as if she was programmed to do it, jinae thought of knowing how he looks like before meeting him.
how would she know he was the right person. witty.
"oh, so seungyeon's right. he has white skin... Looks pretty tall."
she tilted her head as she looked into the photo better.
"and i shall agree. he's cute."
6:22 PM
eunwoo: i'll be there in a minute
"huh?"
"jinae!"
she lifted her chin and followed the voice that called her name.
a pretty boy welcomed her with a beautiful smile plastered on his face.
"sorry for making you wait."
"a-ah... no worries. i haven't been here for too long." jinae said as she stood up.
eunwoo took her bag and put it on his shoulder. "let's go?"
jinae grinned and nodded. for an unknown reason, she felt good. she's happy.
did eunwoo's face lift her mood?
could be. who wouldn't be?
their journey to jinae's home was peaceful — quiet but comforting.
eunwoo would make a few little jokes just to hear her giggling.
and it was effective.
and even though the jokes were old, jinae would still laugh at them. half-heartened thankful she forgets them so he could use the same old funny jokes.
the two faced each other as they stopped at the front door.
"i'll pick you up in the morning. same time. okay?" eunwoo said and jinae nodded. she fished out her phone from her pocket and made a reminder.
"and! don't forget to re-read your diary. same pages i've told you last night." eunwoo said.
"when should i read it? tomorrow morning or later before i go to sleep?" jinae asked but eunwoo shrugged his shoulders.
"do you still remember what you've read?" eunwoo nodded but jinae shook her head. "it would be better for you to read them tonight and tomorrow morning."
"i should read it twice?" jinae asked and eunwoo nodded. "it's not a single page, eunwoo, just to remind you."
"yeah. but they're worth it to read."
"have you read them?" jinae asked and eunwoo nodded. "w-what? i thought it was my diary? then i shouldn't have let you read it?"
"i wanted to know what you should read. can you manage to read the whole diary?" jinae frowned, making eunwoo laugh. "see? everything's good to read but the pages i gave you were the best. i think you would agree with me on that."
"fine. i'll take note of those. so, any other reminders before we go our separate ways?"
"hm... nothing anymore. just..." he tapped his cheeks as he leaned forward.
"what do you mean—"
"kiss. you should at least give me a kiss for a job well done."
"and which one was a job well done?"
"everything?" eunwoo said and jinae laughed.
"liar."
eunwoo pulled himself away from jinae and said, sorry. fine. i'll stop."
"good. so, good night eunwoo."
"good night, jinae." eunwoo responded.
jinae turned around and opened the door.
but she quickly turned around which surprised eunwoo.
"i think you deserve it." jinae murmured.
quickly, she pulled eunwoo's collar and kissed his cheek for around two seconds with her eyes closed.
"good night and see you tomorrow." she said and ran inside.
eunwoo stupidly smiled at the door as he held his cheek kissed by jinae.
"how i wish this would happen everyday. how i wish your heart is mine." he uttered to himself.
