The day had finally come. Pete and I can finally bring little Jackson home. I've missed home, since I've been staying with Pete every night he was here, and I can't wait to see Jaimee and Ethan every day for more than just a few hours. Thankfully, we have amazing friends - aka, Joe and Andy - who have been keeping an eye on Jaimee and Ethan. I couldn't thank the two of them enough for everything they've done the past couple days.
Pete is getting changed now into a set of clothes we brought with us. I was sitting in one of the chairs in the room, holding Jackson in my arms. Ever since he was born, I've just been so happy. He's the sweetest little thing I've ever seen, and just seeing Pete with him makes this all so much better. Jackson coming into our family has made me feel like our family is finally perfect, like it's as big as it should be. I never knew such a tiny, little person could have such an impact on me.
When Pete had first brought up the idea of having another baby that day in our room, it caught be incredibly off guard. He and I were in our forties. I thought we had a great family, and let alone did I think that either of us could get pregnant at our age. But, after thinking about it on that amazing date night we had, I knew he was right. Honestly, when isn't Pete right? Bringing another baby - one last perfect baby - into our family would just tie everything together. Really, I couldn't be happier with what we've all become now.
"There, I think I'm ready," Pete said, walking out of the bathroom, smiling at me and Jackson in the process. "How's my little man?"
"Seems to be doing just fine," I smiled. "and, must I say that I love the clothes you chose to put him in?"
"Come on, babe. You know a green and blue striped onesie is only a must," he smirked. "Anyway, if my two favorite humans are ready, I'm ready."
"Let's go then," I smiled, standing up and following Pete out the door.
Pete and I started down the hallway, receiving smiles and 'awes' from people walking down the hallway, heading the other way. We couldn't help but smile either. As we got outside, then sun was shining bright, which only seemed fitting, really. I gently set Jackson in Pete's arms, then hopped into the drivers seat, while Pete put Jackson in the baby car seat. After he made sure he was in there perfectly, he gently closed the door, then hopped into the passenger seat. As I pulled out of the parking lot, Pete took hold of my hand, pulling it up to his face and kissing it.
"I think we're all set now," Pete said.
"I couldn't agree more," I said. "You know, I was a little shocked when you said you wanted another baby, but looking at Jackson now, I know it was a good idea."
"I just missed being that parent, you know? Like, of course I love all of our kids so much, but there was just something missing. Like, taking care of a baby just seemed appealing - for lack of a better word. I've missed being a dad, I guess. Just waking up early every morning and going into the baby's' room and seeing him laying there, then his face lighting up when I pick him up is just something I've missed. Hell, whenever you go and wake Jaim up, all you get is a smack on the shoulder and a 'shut up' which is kind of funny honestly. And with Ethan, well, he's normally up before us anyway. Do you get what I'm saying at all?" Pete explained.
"I get it completely," I chuckled. "Pete, whatever you've done with each of our kids, keep doing it. Look how amazing they've all turned out! And that's partly thanks to you! You're such an amazing dad, really."
Pete smiled at me, then gripped my hand a little tighter. After ten minutes, Pete and I had arrived home. I grabbed our bags while Pete grabbed the car seat. We walked up to the front door, I fumbled for my keys, then I opened the door.
"Welcome home!" people shouted.
Pete and I lifted our heads as a smile grew on our faces. We were met with Jaim, Nick, Ethan, Joe, Andy, Brendon, Dallon, Spencer, Kenny, Hayley, and Chad. Pete and I started laughing, then everyone else did too. There was a big banner hanging from the wall that read "Welcome Home!" It had sparkles, ribbon, and paint galore, so it had to be the work of Jaimee. I set the bags down in the entryway, then Pete and I made our way into the living room.
"Who has the best Jaimee ever?" Pete asked, wrapping his free arm around Jaimee.
"You do," Jaimee smirked, wrapping her arms around Pete.
"Well, don't just hog little Jackson all to yourself!" Hayley said, making us laugh. "Let me see the little booger!"
Pete and I laughed, then sat on the couch, Jaimee, Nick, and Ethan sitting next to me, then Hayley, Brendon, and Kenny sitting next to Pete. Spencer, Chad, Joe, and Andy were standing behind the couch, looking down. Nick and Brendon were practically balancing on the back of the couch, but they claimed they were comfortable. I laughed at them while Pete got Jackson out of his car seat. Pete gently set him in Hayley arms, then Hayley awed, making us all smile.
"You guys!" she said. "He is precious!"
"He's so adorable!" Brendon said. We all knew he practically turned to mush around babies, so him saying that made us smile even more. "Sperm of the moment kinda thing, hey man?"
"Brendon," Pete said.
"Yeah?" he asked.
"Shut up," Pete laughed.
Jackson was practically being passed around the room, so everyone had a chance to hold him for a few minutes. Much to both mine and Pete's surprise, Jackson didn't cry at all. All he did was make a little baby noise here and there, which was adorable. Brendon even started to copy Jackson's noises, which made us laugh even harder than we already were. I swear, Brendon's just a big baby himself - everyone knows it. Hey, but we love him anyway.
-------------------------------
After hours more of talking, and after bringing Jackson upstairs for a nap, things started winding down around nine. Everyone knew we'd had a long couple days, so they all left, letting us have time to ourselves, as a family - as a new, bigger, better family. Nick obviously stayed, though, talking our ears off about how excited he was for us, and to practically be a big brother to Jackson. It made me smile, honestly. He's already so good with Jaim, and now he's being so amazing with Jackson. Definitely a keeper.
"Well, I think we're going to head up to bed," Jaimee said around ten. "Night guys."
"Night baby girl," Pete and I said, chuckling afterwards.
We watched Nick and Jaimee walk towards the stairs, then disappear into Jaimee's room. Ethan had crashed shortly after everyone left, then Nick brought him up to bed. Pete and I were just up now, and ever since Pete brought Jackson upstairs, he'd only cried twice. I could get used to this, really.
"You know, we've got a kickass family, along with some kickass friends too," Pete chuckled, laying down and resting his head on my lap.
"Tell me about it," I said, stroking his hair.
"At least we're finally home with our last addition," he said.
"Yeah. Everything is just perfect," I said, smiling as I leaned down and kissed Pete's head. "You did good, babe."
Vote please? I'd really appreciate it .-.
