Jesse heavily sunk down beside the fireplace, reaching up and rubbing her tired eyes. The crackling noise of the flames somewhat relaxing, the smoky smell reminding Jesse of times when she used to be out in the middle of nowhere much more often.
"So." Jesse said, opening her eyes back up. "Where exactly are we heading from here?"
Petra was sitting on her hunches beside the fire, poking at it with a long stick. She lifted her head hearing Jesse's voice. "What do you mean?"
"Exactly what I said." Jesse replied. "What's your plan? Where do you go?"
"Anywhere." Petra replied, starting to grin. "The plan is to have no plan. See where the world takes us!"
Jesse chuckled, shaking her head. "Of course." She said with a roll of her eyes. "What was I expecting with you?"
Petra smirked, looking back down at the fire. Satisfied that it wasn't going to go out any time soon, she tossed the stick she was using to the side.
Jesse lazily flopped down onto her back, staring up at the cave's roof. As soon as her head was resting on the hard stone, her eyes started to feel droopy. She shook her head to fight off the drowsiness.
Jesse didn't necessarily blame her body for being tired. Not after the many sleepless nights during the battle with Romeo, barely fitting in tiny breaks here and there... It's been a while since the battle, but Jesse hasn't done much in terms of gaining back the rest she had lost.
Jesse's eyes slowly closed. Feeling her mind threatening to drift off, she forced her heavy eyelids back open. Blinking slowly a few times, the light stinging her eyes.
"Tired?"
Jesse turned her head to the side, seeing Petra sitting on the opposite side of the fire. Her one eyebrow slightly raised as her blue eyes rested on Jesse.
"It's been a long day." Jesse replied with a shrug.
"Every day since the battle, has been a long day for you." Petra pointed out. "You didn't give yourself any breaks, did ya?"
"I couldn't leave with you while Beacontown was in the state Romeo left it in." Jesse argued. "I had to make sure everything would still be fine, even without me there."
"I'm sure Beacontown is fine with Radar." Petra replied. "He'd fight another giant enderman before even thinking about disappointing you."
"That he will." Jesse replied with a chuckle, stifling a yawn.
"Today though, it has been a long day." Petra admitted, Jesse's yawn seeming to be contagious. "But a great one at that."
"Yeah." Jesse replied sleepily, her eyes already closed again. She could feel darkness slowly closing in on her mind, but was too exhausted to continue fighting it off.
"Jesse?" She heard Petra's voice.
"Hmm?"
"Thank you."
Jesse gathered the energy to pull open her heavy eyelids, turning her head to look over at Petra with a slight hint of confusion in her eyes. "For what?"
Petra shrugged, rubbing the back of her head awkwardly. "Coming with me today."
"I promised, didn't I?" Jesse pointed out, smiling vaguely. "I wasn't going to let my best friend go that easily."
Petra let out a half-hearted chuckle. "Still, I had this lingering feeling about what if you decided Beacontown needed you more." She grinned. "I'm glad my gut was wrong for once."
