It was a chilly winter morning, the sun faintly shining behind a thick layer of grey clouds. A firm breeze was blowing outside, playing with the gently falling snowflakes.
Usually a day like that would have been rather gloomy, most people spending their time indoors, huddled by a fireplace. Most would debate over whether it was worth it to even go outside.
Yet, the moment Jesse's eyes opened that morning, she had launched herself out of bed like a bullet. Tripping over her own feet in the process, doing a front flip mid air, only to leap up seconds after she crash landed into the wall.
It was Christmas eve, one of Jesse's favourite times of the year. And that year, she had all the more reason to be excited over the top.
It was her and her friends' first Christmas as the Order of the Stone.
While spending the holiday with their new title was certainly something, that wasn't what had Jesse all excited. Not only did she get to spend it with four friends instead of two, but there was also nothing to worry about.
As amazing as Christmas time was in the past, it was also a struggle for her, Axel and Olivia. In their tiny little tree-house, they'd always spend the long winter months huddled together for some warmth, struggling to get by.Jesse couldn't be happier that that would be a thing of the past.
As she bolted down the wooden staircase of their new, large two storey tree-house, Jesse was grinning from ear to ear. Eyes eagerly searching for her friends, unable to contain her excitement.
There was already a pleasant smell wafting in from the kitchen. Jesse was almost certain that that was where Olivia and Axel were, Olivia most likely doing the baking while Axel was following after her like a dog begging for scraps.
Jesse leaped across the last two steps of the staircase, nearly sliding across the slick wood into the opposite wall. Only just about able to avoid another crash landing on the same morning, Jesse let out out an excited chuckle.
Her brown eyes quickly scanned the room, every wooden column covered in garland or tinsel. Admittedly, she was responsible for the completely overdone decorations. Did she regret it? Not one bit.
Just then, Jesse spotted a light movement out of the corner of her eyes, flinging around on the top. Petra was standing over in the living room, in front of the fire place. Unlike Jesse, she looked rather relaxed and calm, hands tucked into the pockets of her blue hoodie.
The redhead's eyes were resting on the large Christmas tree, gaze slowly moving over it's colourful decorations and baubles. She seemed completely unaware of Jesse's presence as one of her hands slipped out of her pocket, tentatively reaching up to touch one of the plastic branches.
"Morning Petra!" Jesse called excitedly, causing her friend to jump back from the tree in surprise.
"Holy crap Jesse, what's with the screaming introduction?" Petra asked as Jesse excitedly came bounding up to her. "You'll give any unsuspecting person a heart attack!"
"It's Christmas Eve!" Jesse exclaimed, throwing up her arms excitedly. "Show some enthusiasm, Petra!"
Before Petra could even begin thinking of a response, Jesse had straight up tackled in a bear hug, nearly sending them both to the ground. Letting out a squeal of surprise, she was just about able to use the wall as a support to keep them both upright, looking down at Jesse with a mixture of both confusion and surprise on her face.
"Uh, yeah, Christmas Eve, wonderful, could you get off me now?" Petra asked, trying to squirm out of Jesse's grip.
"Is somebody getting murdered in here, or what?" A voice asked, causing both Jesse and Petra to turn their attention to the door way.
