Jesse was positively having one of the worst nights of her life. Out of those she could remember, anyway.

Throughout the dark hours she would toss and turn in bed, haunted by unfamiliar sights, confusion and terror gripping her throughout her sleep.

Finally, after a long night of horrid dreams, Jesse's eyes opened. She sat up in bed, looking around the room anxiously, her body drenched in sweat. She didn't recognize anything, not the room she was in, not the bed she was on.

Every morning has been this way for Jesse, ever since she lost her memories. She'd wake up in confusion, not recognizing the cave she was in. Only, every time Petra was there. She'd be sitting awake, ready to help calm Jesse down, reminding her where she was and what was going on around her.

This time however, she was alone.

After a few minutes of desperately scanning the room, her heart beating at a rapid pace, Jesse seemed to slightly calm down. As the images from her nightmares faded away, she began remembering what happened the previous evening, Petra bringing her to meet Lukas.

She was in Lukas's room at that moment, as he let her spend the night there. Breathing out heavily, Jesse fell back on the pillows.

She turned onto her side, pulling her knees up to her chest and wrapping her arms around them. She was slightly afraid.

What should she do? Get up and leave the room? Where should she go? Would Lukas and Petra be in the living room? Or should she stay here?

Jesse bit her lip, tears threatening. Amnesia made her uncertain of everything. Not just uncertain, but afraid. She was terrified of the simplest things.

Lukas's Ocelot was lying on the bed a bit away from Jesse, swishing it's tail sideways in his sleep. He didn't seem to mind that the person on the bed wasn't his normal master.

Jesse timidly reached out, stroking the ocelot's spotted fur. He purred contentedly, opening one eye to acknowledge Jesse's presence before closing it again.

"Hey."

Jesse turned her head to see the door open a crack, Lukas peering through.

"I see you're awake." He said, smiling at her. "Everything still OK?"

Jesse only nodded, not saying anything. Even though a part of her knew Lukas, she was shy around him. He was a stranger to her after all.

"If you're ready, there's breakfast on the stove." He said. "We're leaving in a few hours to head to Ivor's."

"You think I'll get my memories back today?" Jesse asked softly, timidly.

"Positive." Lukas replied. "Ivor has a potion of every kind. No doubt he can fix what happened to you."

Jesse nodded, looking back down at Lukas's ocelot and continuing to stroke his soft fur.

"I'll leave so you can change." Lukas said, stepping back. "We'll be in the kitchen." He closed the door.

Jesse sat up, blinking hard to stop her tears. She felt so out of place... she didn't belong here, it just wasn't right.

The ocelot purred again, slinking into Jesse's lap and nuzzling his head against her hand. Jesse looked down at him, feeling somewhat more comfortable in the presence of an animal.

"I'm scared." She said softly.

As Jesse walked down the hallway, she could already smell whatever Lukas was making in the kitchen. It smelled good, and she managed a weak smile for the first time that morning.
