"Okay, where the hell is Jesse?" Olivia asked in annoyance, planting her hands on her hips. "I've been looking all over the place for her, it's like she evaporated into thin air."
"She's Jesse." Petra replied from where she was lying upside down on the couch. "There's only so many places she can be. Have you checked the library?"
"Only about seven times." Olivia replied, sinking down on one of the arm chairs. "We still have to go through this entire list of supplies, otherwise we'll be completely unprepared for tomorrow!"
"Cut Jesse some slack." Lukas said from one of the other couches, looking up from his journal. "You know she always packs last-minute for these trips. She probably had something to do out in the town."
"Yeah, and she always forgets something!" Olivia argued, waving the list at Lukas. "I don't want us to be hiking halfway up a mountain, only to here 'Um, guys, I think I forgot my underwear'. Get my point?"
Petra snorted at Olivia's words, nearly sliding down from couch. Even Lukas stifled a chuckle.
There was the sound of a door opening, Olivia almost immediately leaping up from her chair. "Je-" She started, only for her face to fell when she saw Axel in the doorway. Mid-chew, holding a bag of cookies.
"Don't eat all those, will you?" She scolded, slumping back down on the chair.
"Somebody's grumpy." Axel muttered, walking over and planting himself down on a couch as well.
"If Jesse doesn't turn up somewhere within the next thirty minutes, I swear I'll pack for her." Olivia muttered in frustration.
"If I knew that, I would have been hiding out in town all day!" Petra spoke up.
"Lazy." Olivia muttered under her breath, shooting Petra a glare.
"Okay, Liv, would you chill for one second if I went looking for Jesse?" Lukas finally asked with a sigh.
"I've already been through this entire house." Olivia pointed out with a sigh. "And Beacontown's huge, if-"
"It's nearly sunset." Lukas cut her off, getting up from the couch. "I might know a place Jesse likes to spend this time."
"Convenient." Olivia mumbled. "Well if you find her, just please give her a gentle nudge – or a harsh shove – back in the direction of home, please?"
Lukas chuckled, nodding as he headed out of the living room. "Will do!" He called back over his shoulder.
Lukas stopped by the main door, reaching a hand out to the coat-rack. Instead of grabbing his usual leather jacket, he grabbed a slightly more over-sized hoodie, pulling the hood over his head. It wasn't that cold out, but he didn't want to draw any attention. If he walked down the street with his face in clear view – he might just have a fan or ten running after him within the first 5 minutes.
Luckily, as the day had crawled closer to an end, the streets were less busy than usual. As Lukas walked n the direction of the gate, he subconsciously kept an eye out for Jesse – just in case.
The moment he was out of Beacontown, Lukas pulled the hoodie off – having properly started to sweat inside it. Bundling it up and carrying it under his arm, he started to walk across the large fields of grass.
Soon he reached his destination and – as predicted – there she was. Sitting on the grassy slope, staring out at the setting sun, chestnut hair flapping in the wind. Jesse had her legs crossed beneath her, hands resting in her lap. A thoughtful look in her brown eyes.
