As soon as she got some privacy, Bella took out her phone and texted Director Fury:

It is Pierce. PLEASE be careful. He has a dangerous assassin under his control.

A few hours later Bella got a reply from Fury saying:

Then I guess it is a good thing that I have both my eyes open.

Bella smiled at the reply and went back to the facility and to the room that she had been assigned. On the way she overheard a few officials saying, "The Winter Soldier has another mission tomorrow."

She went into her room praying desperately that the next mission would be less of a torture on that poor soldier.

But she couldn't sleep. She got up in the middle of the night and searched throughout the facility as quietly as possible and finally found what she was looking for.

A file with the Winter Soldier's picture inside it.

There were documents in there and a very old picture of him in a military uniform with short hair.

Bella smiled at the picture as she saw his innocent smile and before she knew, tears were falling down her face.

"James Buchanan Barnes," muttered Bella to herself as she read the first page of the file. "No wonder your best friend called you Bucky."

Before she could be sensible and decide to go back to sleep, she was already dialing Natasha Romanoff's number.

"Where are you?" she said and instead of making riddles, Nat just asked her to come to a designated location probably because she heard the desperation and urgency in her voice.

Bella sneaked out of the facility and met Natasha who looked like she had been through some serious shit.

"Nat," Bella whispered. "What the hell happened? Where is Fury?"

"Don't worry, everything will be fine," Nat said simply and somehow, although she looked extremely sad, she smiled.

She paused as Nat's eyes widened at the name and she immediately took the file and started flitting through the pages. "Keep it safe," Bella continued, "and don't let it fall into the wrong hands."

"I give you my word Fury," Nat said and Bella smiled at her.

Bella travelled back to the facility before dawn and sneaked in. Thankfully, no one had missed her.

The soldier had returned from the mission and was seated on the hospital bed while a technician worked on his metal arm, probably fixing it from a damage he had acquired on the mission. Suddenly, the soldier violently threw the technician away and glared at the floor. Nobody moved, not even Bella, as she saw a few men making a phone call. She didn't have to look closer to know whom they were calling.

"I knew that man," the soldier said in a broken voice.

Pierce looked at him coldly and asked him to continue the mission. And then, what Bella saw, broke her heart into a million pieces.

The words, "prep him" and "wipe him" had barely escaped Pierce's mouth as the soldier's eyebrows lifted slightly and his lips quivered. His face had the mask of complete determination but Bella saw fear in his eyes. Not just fear of losing his identity, but fear of the physical pain.
