Zoe POV

I arrived first. We decided on going to A La Mode for our date thing. I ordered a large espresso milkshake. I'm gonna need a lot of espresso for this.

Evan came a few minutes later. He ordered a medium vanilla shake. How boring. ((zoe shut up i like vanilla shakes the best))

"So, how are ya?" I flipped my hair over my shoulder dramatically.

"I'm okay, I guess. How are you?"

"I'm great. I'm finally getting to go out with you." I giggled.

He chuckled. Just a chuckle. Ugh. Better up my game.

"You like blue, huh? Always wearing blue shirts."

"Yeah. It's my favorite color. I even-"

"No way, mine too!"

"Oh uh cool. Yeah I'm kinda boring with all the blue," he said, gesturing towards his classic blue striped polo. See, I told you he was boring.

"Totally," I said absently. I'm watching a kid outside playing with flowers attempting to make flower crowns for his sister. Connor and I used to do that. Connor had to reteach me how every time because I always forgot. He always used pink flowers, mine were yellow.

Evan just sipped his milkshake silently. Weird. He seemed much more interested a few weeks ago. How do you get over someone that fast?

Evan POV

Zoe's acting weird. Half the time she's been gazing out the window, the other half is short, forced conversation.

I looked behind me to see what she was watching so intently. Two kids picking flowers and making crowns.

"Zoe, are you okay?"

"I'm fine." She didn't look at me.

"Okay."

Homecoming is approaching. It feels like yesterday they were saying it's two months away. Now it's seventeen days. I counted in my head while I was at A La Mode with Zoe.

Speaking of, homecoming dates. I don't really want Zoe to ask me to go with her. She keeps acting weird whenever I'm around. And I'm completely over her because I like someone else, although he probably won't ask anywa-

As if on cue, Connor and Jared came over to me. "Hey Evan," they said practically in unison. They both cringed at that. I just laughed. "Hi."

Jared pushed Connor forward slightly. "Go get him, tiger," he whispered pretty loud for a whisper. He winked pretty obviously too.

"Yeah thanks," he whispered sarcastically back to Jared. He faced me again and exhaled. "So homecoming's um,, coming. I was wondering if you maybe you'd want to go. Like with me. Together. Like buddies do. Or not. If you want, it's totally up to you," he rambled. It was sorta cute.

I smiled at that and replied, "I'll go with you. Buddy."

"Oh thank god."

Jared was beaming. He held out both of his fists so Connor and I could fist bump him. He's such a dork.

In physics, which I have with Zoe, I didn't even fully sit in my seat before she asked, "Wanna go to homecoming, bestie?"

Um Zoe, honey, no. Bestie is Connor's thing.
"I'm sorry. Someone else already asked me."

"Fuck me gently with a chainsaw. Who?!"

The teacher shushed us and told us to continue our work more quietly.
