DRAWN LINE

RAVEN

As Harriette predicted, men came and ordered us out and away from Miranda's room. I didn't want to just go especially when a nurse came running inside my wife's room.

I fought against the guards trying to get past them but to no avail. The nurse was out as quickly as she entered and told us to quiet down.

"The patient needs her rest but you're creating a huge disturbance loitering and shouting outside her room." The elderly nurse chastised me and the guards.

"Please for her sake and the other patients on this level, break it up. And you," she pointed at me. "She's threatening to hurt herself if she sees or ever hears you out here again."

She'd hurt herself and the baby?

"Let's go, Rave." Aaron pulled me with him to the elevators. The doors were about to close when I attempted to step back out.

Harriette had a hand stopping me. "You heard what she had the nurse say." The doors closed and the three of us stood in here not talking.

"She'd harm herself?"

"That's how badly she wants you away," came the reply.

"Honey..." Aaron started but his wife interrupted him.

"Shut up. Not another word from you!" Harriette was on a roll. Furious. "Be glad she didn't have you thrown out the window. I'd hoped for that much." She was not mincing her words.

Though it kills me, I'll give you your space, Miranda.

"Sir Galvin is awake!"

It was close to two in the morning when we arrived. One of our attendants at home greeted us by the entrance and told me that my brother woke from a coma.

Though tired and drained, I happily raced to my brother's room. There I found him, breathing all on his own. There were no machines helping him. The in-house nurse was done examining him and was trying to get the doctor to come back and check on my brother.

"Hey, kiddo... How is my baby sister?" His voice was cracking and raspy from being unused. "Where's Evie?"

"She's..."

My brother just woke and the duty of telling him what happened fell heavily on my shoulders. So much has happened in the span of less than twenty-four hours.

MIRANDA

I was ready to scream for Raven to get out when I saw that it was Harriette. She handed me my phone and put the basket full of fruits on the table. She apologized for not returning my cellphone sooner.

"I know I'm the last person you would want to see." It was not her who I was mad at. She knew it.

"Well, maybe the third to the last person you would not want to see. I presume Raven to be the titleholder."

I smiled at her, "You giving them hell?"

"Aaron is going to be in the dog house for the foreseeable future." It's hard to feel sorry for the man. I'd rather say he better clean his act up after that.

I always knew Harriette wasn't one who would tolerate them.

"Galvin's ok now." Her statement garnered my attention.
